Man the tuning on this is 🤮 Also, you are supposed to pluck at the center of the string regardless of where the note is on the sheet. It makes a different sound if you pluck toward the ends.

I found mine at a thrift store, luckily they had the tuning key taped on there, and I sang along to tune it (do re mi fa so la ti do.) Before tuning, everything I tried to play sounded like something out of a horror film, lol.

The emphasis is being placed on children here, but there’s no reason why an adult can’t play this as well. It’s related to the zither, psaltery and dulcimer. I’ve used mine for decades to play medieval and renaissance music. Sumer Is Icumen In, Nova, a nice Estampie etc. and some English folk tunes such as Rosebud In June (I need to put a metal Rod at one end of the lowest G to flatten it for one note in the song) and it’s quite satisfying to play with wooden sticks, much like a hammered dulcimer. To show how great this instrument can sound, here’s a link to a video of someone playing ‘Classical Gas’ on a similar 15 string lap harp (albeit a more professional quality instrument) kzbin.info/www/bejne/pmWlY3iNn9OBgdksi=5SQmgQT7Vqmg88x8 But they are certainly great for teaching kids music as well. They can play really simple tunes and more complicated music playing multiple strings. Good for all ages.

Lol, it's just a little russian gusli (I don't know the correct english equivalent). The translator says that its name is just a harp, but I know for sure that the harp is a different instrument.
