For those that have this same lyre issue with it untuning as demonstrated in the video... remove the tuning pin completely. Add a drop or two of nail polish remover on the tuning pin threads and hand tighten back into ... It will clean the dust (from storage and shipping) and swell the wood around the pin for a tighter hold. This also works with harp tuning pins.

It's a tricky one to pin down, a lot of people label it as a Lyre Harp as they share similar traits, and it seems like a Celtic instrument but Celtic encompasses so many different parts of the UK and even parts of Europe. Nice vid, good to see a lyre review, a few corrections..... a lyre is not a type of harp, but they are the granddaddy of just about every string instrument from the guitar to the cello, though are completely unrelated to harps...... Can you pls tell me whether the lyre you ordered sounds good? And is it a good company for your kalimba?
@hellsingmongrel4 жыл бұрын
@@s.k.6899 Do NOT buy mass-produced cheap bamboo flutes, those will never play anything but shite. I'd say go for a tin whistle, irish whistle, celtic whistle, whatever you want to call them. You can get some for about $20 on amazon, they're name-brand and reputable (Clarke's, Generations, Feadogh, etc) and they're actually decent enough for beginners and can even be used by professionals if you take enough of a liking to them. They also have pretty much the same fingerings that you'd see in a lot of those bamboo flutes, they're really easy to play.

The super cheap string instruments (like harps) on Amazon tend to be actually be made in Pakistan. I have a Pakistani harp, and they're renowned for not being up to good build quality. Mine constantly loses its tuning, and the levers (which should turn the string from a natural to a sharp) are completely misaligned, so if I want to play anything with sharps, i have to retune the harp instead of flipping a lever. I am not surprised by the quality of this lyre at all...

Reach your hand through the hole, circle at top with no back where you can see through the strings, touch Or mute all the strings EXCEPT the 3 or 4 that make a chord. Now you can strum like a guitar and play easy music. ....or not! LOL

The fact that it was out of tune when it arrived has nothing to do with the quality, becasue it's a stringed instrument...made of wood. So even the most expensive lyre or violin in the world is going to sound like shit because its going through the postal service, and different temperature changes. The quality lies in the type of wood (not necessarily thickness or sturdiness), the construction of the wood, the placement of the bridge, and the quality of the strings. Are you even a string major bro? ; )
