Laphroaig is currently owned by Beam Suntory (of Jim Beam fame). The cask strength and annual Cairdeas are my favorites from this distillery. Thanks Peter.

Cask Strength is a favorite! Glad you like this one. One interesting fact I picked up on a tour: they have floor malting, but they’re malting less than 10% of their barley (the rest still comes from Port Ellen, although that will change). The 2015 Cairdeas used 100% barley from their floors.

I wonder how that will effect the profile. I have not had the Cairdeas and have heard split opinions about it. Have you had it and if so what do you think of it?

At the $105 min price tag I’m done with these. They’re good and I’ve acquired a lot of them through the years so I’m good. I agree with the tasting notes. With water it does taste good still. I remember the only time I didn’t taste the peat with it was when I got hit with Covid.

Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength is an absolute favorite of mine! I’ve had batch 15 and 16 and like the batch 16 a touch more ( It has a touch more coastal brine and a touch less vanilla for me) I’d also recommend the Lore and the 16 year old. That being said, this winter I’ve been reaching for Ledaig most often when I’m wanting something peated….usually Ledaig 10, the Sinclair or the 9 year cask strength.

The Lore is a good one also. I have it in my sample pool along with this. It will be interesting to see which one I like more when it comes up.

I’m a big fan of CS Laphroaig. Batch 10 was the standout for me, but my current bottle is batch 13 and so far it’s a solid pour. 🥃 I see that batch 16 is on the shelves so I’ll have to grab a bottle. 👍🏼

I have a few bottles of Laphroaig so it will be a while before I'm ready for another one. Until then I'll keep enjoying this one.

I've had batches 11 thru 15, I like the 12 best. Laphroig and Ardbeg are my favorite scotch. Great review thanks

yes, I agree, I wanted to like Laphroaig, but the couple of time I tried , I dont find any pleasant, but artificial notes, like going to a tire store and some tires are brand new and other tires are burning, and then you find after a while at the store a green pear , that's what I get with laphroaig, I tried the sherry one and the same thing with some sherry notes. its not for me

I believe the Laphroaig 10 CS are twice a year releases Peter. I am not a regular purchaser of every Laphroaig 10 CS releases but I currently have batch 13 opened and have a batch 15 bottle unopened. Batch 13 has all the characteristics of briny, savory, tire/rubber ball peaty flavors. I believe the latest (?) batch 16 has the highest abv of these CS releases.

I thought I saw that someplace that there were 2 releases but I wasn't sure. I'm set with a few bottles of Laphroaig so it will be a while before I get another one. I'm happy to slowly sip on this one for a while.

It's a good one. I was pleasantly surprised with it. I'm typically an Ardbeg fan but this ranks up there with them

There are few scotches, peated or otherwise, that have such a distinct character. My wife smells the finger paint from across the room every time :) It's a shame the standard 10 is lacking the craft presentatiom but that's alright. I have this 015 as well and it's phenomenal. I'll be keeping up with the future releases. Have you given Lochlea a try? Interesting that John Campbell went that way from Laphroaig. Keep the Scotch content coming! Great video as always 🤘

Peter this is my jam!! I admit Laphroaig is not my normal "go to" for peated scotch as I much prefer Lagavulin and Ardbeg as well as other distilled scotch expressions but this one sounds like a must try and I love the ABV! Man we get ripped off in Australia, what you paid for it $88 USD is equal to about $135 AUD... But we get charged $250 AUD for these bad boys, $163 USD - double what you paid!! 😭

Germany here, where by law there has to be a specification about coloring on the label. My botte says "Mit Farbstoff" (with coloring).

Good to know. I had a feeling if it didn't say it on the label then it had some level of coloring added. I wish we had that law here.

It doesn't really protect the german custumer (as most of the laws don't protect the citizen but the elite..). The only thing is does is to eradicate uncertainty. But insofar as "no color added" is a seal of approval you can infer the coloring of the whisky from the absence of that labeling with a very low error ratio (-: @@whiskeyisajourney

I don't like the burn of cask strength whiskies. Prefer to water it down to 40% with water and still keep the oily flavor.

Cask strength can be overwhelming for me as well. It's nice to be able to proof it down when necessary.

Like I said in the video I enjoy peated scotch in the colder weather and months.
