Laphroaig 10 CS vs Ardbeg Uigeadail

You have an excellent nose and palate. Picking those notes right out of the glass. These are two of my favorite whiskys. I'm somewhat of a peat head.

You will have a blast. I recommend Jim’s taxi service. He’s actually a tour guide and will get you to all your destinations on time plus a few sights of interest thrown in, like the new distilleries and warehouses

Did a 5 distillery tour through Islay this last summer. Loved the AU right away. Tasted the L10 at Laphroaig . Brought home a bottle from every distillery but in retrospect would’ve bought as much AU as I could carry. The great thing about the paid tours is they have you taste juice that is only there, batches in the process of maturing, that you’ll never see on the market, yet.

Lucky man!!! i was booked in for Islay for my 40th back in 2021 but covid stopped that, still not had the chance to go, hopefully for my 45th.......i know no one cares lol but i instead went to to edingburg for my 40th and stayed at the Balmoral hotel, the whiskey bar was unbelievable! over 250 whiskeys with lots of rare ones, have to mention the whiskey sommelier (if thats what they are called) are great! i got a special flight, had 4 drams of whiskey all over 21 year old. cheers

Very good take Peter on these Kings of Islay and really tough but you show you're Expert. Well done, it was hard battle. I have both, love both but never done H2H and dont think i have to( you done it for me) 😂 and both drams are winners. Batch 15(17 so far, you right) is absolutely fantastic, one of my favourite, i find it on sale recently for £54.99 in UK which is steal so i grab it as a back up. Your price are not bad as well. I'm a 'Peathead'. I have blinded the Uigedail against the Port Charlotte and I have a similar back and forth as you do in this video. By a tiny bit, the Port Charlotte wins for me. These I have in my collection, but had the Laphroaig 10 also and is another great pour. Excellent video!

Great vid Peter. I would be reaching more for the Ardbeg as well. Laphroaig is good at higher proof but in general a lot of Laphroaig start off good for me but change and the taste turns bad for me. The regular Laphroaig 10 I can’t drink at all because of that. This year’s Cairdeas was unique and different. I liked it but no need to buy a bottle for me.

My preference is Ardbeg, but today my palate leaned towards Laphroaig. I have not experienced a change in my Laphroaig bottles, but now I'll be paying more attention to it now that you mentioned it. Cheers!

Have done a blind with both 10s, normal bottles. And the Laphroaig 10 came out on top, but not very far.... Ardbeg 10 is a good pour... have a blind set up with Ardbeg, Lahroaig, Lagavulin, my unknown and 1 more but its unknown. God sone and I each brought an unknown bottle to the blind.. so we are going to find out what we like best in the 5.... just have to have time for both of us to get to. cheers man... great vid...

Did an Ardbeg tasting some years ago at a farm in one of those big party tents. The Oogy and the An Oa stood out for me. Especially the Oogy. I blended a bit at the end with the bits left in my glasses... I don't recall if they worked, I do remember that I got some looks.

Based on your description of both pours, I am going to guess the Ardbeg Uigeadail is on your left (typed at the 9:45 mark)... (11:47) I WAS RIGHT. I am not a heavily peated Scotch whisky aficionado but I do appreciate and prefer the type of peat Ardbeg and Lagavulin offer on the nose and palate. Just talked to a peathead friend and he has a bottle of the Laphroiag 10 Batch 16 which he picked up earlier this year (at 58.5%) 🥃.

Can't go wrong with either. They each can satisfy in their own way. However, I have bought one Ardbeg Ugie but have owned at least 3 Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength batches. It seems to have a magnetic pull towards my glass 😂 Thanks for the video!

Great video!! I personally prefer the Uigeadail. Especially the ones from a few years ago. Quality has gone down slightly. I highly recommend you check out the new Laphroaig Cairdeas 10 Cask Favorites. It's fantastic. Big sherry and peat.

@whiskeyisajourney If I had to guess, I think Ardbeg has turned their focus more on the bazillion special releases they have now. Maybe they're using all their good casks for those. I wouldn't know because I have never bought a special release from them, nor will I ever. The one bottle I have come close to buying is the 19 year Traigh Bhan, but $300 is just way too much. I guess I'll stay happy with the Uigeadail. Cheers!!🥃
