Joined the waiting list. This should be fun, will also get a USB-C magnetic connector and finally not have to worry about tripping on the cable. Also need to remember to get a longer USB-C cable but that's not as important.
@MikePDiy4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for joining the waiting list :-) . I am sure you will enjoy this mod :-) . About the long cables, I use 1m long cables generally and I also have a 2m cable but it is a bit hit and miss with them as some cables have the emark IC's inside and this means they might be limited to smaller power ratings. I personally use a 2m UGreeen braided cable that works fine uo to 60W( did not test that cable on higher power). If you go with 1m cables, they don't need to be USB certified which means most of them will not have this emark IC and this means less chances to have problems because of the cables. It is not very often that you hear people to have problems with the cables but better to avoid the issue all together :-) .
@vince0864 жыл бұрын

@MikePDiy4 ай бұрын
As long as your laptop is a thinkpad you cna see the voltage output on the charger and that is mostly 20V so a board that you have bought that can output 20V will be ideal. You need a good quality Type-C to Type-C cable and make sure that your caharger can out put the necessary wattage on one port :-) .

@@MikePDiy I don't really have enough usb-c chargers to justify it yet. At some point I will. Only have one GaN charger and no cable. I did read 19v should be enough. However yeah 20v would be ideal since that is the voltage of the OEM charger.

Hi Matt, I have mods for the W530 but did not yet make a listing for them. Place an order for T420 and write in the comments W530 and I know what to do :-) . Thunderbolt 3 is not an option imho but a rich feature type-C with usb 3 , display port and charge output can be done though that will never be able to be done as a drop-in but it will require soldering to the MB of the laptop. Thank you :-D . I didn't make this mod for the Yoga line of laptops just because making a case become for the mod is very unlikely to succeed. The space available in the X240 to fit the mod in allows for a good quality case to be made but until the case is completed with the mod and bonded(potted) the case itself is very fragile so going below that size I am affraid I will be unable to even 3D print the case :-D .

Would it be worthwhile to set it up as a dual input charging system? I find that sometimes I am somewhere with my charger and I prefer the chunkiness of the connector but other times I find I need to get a quick charge and there's only Type C available.

Hi there, I honestly don't think it's worth the effort to make a dual input power system for charging as it gets a tad complex :-) . I think it might be easier in your case to go for a type-c to slim tip adapter cable as that would allow you use both charging options in a pinch :-) .

I have a 65W Type-C charger and a Thinkpad X250 with a DC power-jack that only consists of 2 red wires, 2 black wires and a white wire. How would I complete the soldering process and what resistor should I get?
@MikePDiy4 ай бұрын
You should measure to confirm what each wire represents. As a rule of thumb( but still measure first !) : the red wires are your V+ or VCC , black wires are your GND and the white wire will be your ID pin. To simulate a 65W charger use a 240Ohm between GND and ID pin. If I would be you I would make sure that my PD charger that I will use can supply 65W also.

@@nikyamaguchi the resistor needs to be soldered between the ID pin and the GND so based on the colours you have mentioned and assuming the order in the pcb connector matches what I have said above you need to solder the 240Ohm resistor between the white and black wires. Hi , Normally you should go with the same value as you have on your original charger. The higher power will not harm the laptop, it will act just as a buffer in case the the laptop needs a peak of power. The reason that i have explained so much is more for the people who would think to use a 65 or 45w on a laptop that normally needs a 90W charger but in your case you can go with 45W without any problem or 65W if you wish to give some buffer. #Ask, Why x230 you using smd 10K ohm resistor?but in x250 only just 2 series resistor?resistor 0,25 watt/0,5 watt?for series circuit

Hi there, sotty but I am not sure about your question :-) . I am going to answer to what I think you are asking and please correct me if I got it wrong :-) . In the X230 video I am using one resistor as I had the correct value but for the X250 I did not have one resistor that would give me the correct value for the ID pin so I have used 2 resitors that summed up gave me a very close value to what the ID pin needed to present to the laptop :-) . I hope I have answered your question :-D .
