Good to hear that you realize that just like in testing a car battery the voltage may look good until we apply a load - Thanks - you're the only one who seems to know this.

it could be a MOSFET between the jack-port and the connector you tested which should be easy to repair but that's the other side of the coin. The vision that I had before was to replace the MOBO. Maybe now I would give it a try to replace the MOSFET. I have seem that with the proper equip. is kind of easy and the parts could be taken out of another spare MOBO. Believe me my philosophy towards those problems changed very much. It would be fun!

There are no mosfetts between the jack port and the connector. The mosfetts are after the connector.

Power connector should be around 3v - 5v. Thats the standard for push button Ram should be 3.3v at socket or 1.35v - + Battery port should less than battery volt output

Is 19volts DC really going to electrocute you? I think before you start doing any work on electronics you should understand that you'll be ok...however letting that barrel plug with a nail in fall on the morherboard might cause some issues...might want to work with it not directly over top of the motherboard. Sorry being an ass, just felt it should be said for anyone out there that might be afraid of this type of repair for reasons they dont need to be.

Thanks for your great videos first of all!!! now I'd like some advice.... i have a no power problem on my Acer r14 no charging lights come on and it won't power up. its never been dropped or overheated. Is it possible if i replace the battery this will fix problem? i checked the charger and is at 19v (which is correct for this unit). i feel skilled enough to change a battery but I'm not comfortable messing with the MB. should i order a battery? would the pc power up when connected to power if the battery was the problem? does that eliminate battery problem?

I plugged my laptop in one day while using it and it went black instantly. It was completely unresponsive. I tested the charger and it was working correctly. I tried disconnecting the battery and just using it while plugged in, didn’t respond. It’s still under 1 year warranty. Is this a motherboard issue? Also how did my motherboard get damaged?

Dell inspiron N4050 laptop ac adapter light turns off - I have a dell inspiron N4050 , last night the battery charge was around 7% and I tried plugin the power adapter .As soon as charger plugged in the machine went off and blue indicator light in the charger also went off. I couldn't boot the laptop again both with and without charger. I also tried removing the battery and tried still when I plug the charger the blue light goes off. I tried the followings. Removed battery Pressed power button for about 60 sec. Inserted the battery. Tried power on without charger And then with charger(again charger blue light goes off). Still no luck.... ------------------------------------------------- Is the mother board dead? :-( I guess any capacitor shorted, but I am not sure.... Is there any other suggestions I can try? -------------------------------------------------

My Acer Aspire E1-571 laptop is really bad; it doesn't charge unless I tilt the cable, the RAM is 4GB which struggles on Windows 10 (I honestly don't know why because I know people who run fine with it, and although 'malware' can be brought up, I beg to differ that I have malware after various scans.) The hard drive especially is a pain. I am always getting blue screens of death, even on IDLE and the disk is always 'corrupt' so I have to use chkdsk which only works for a short amount of time. I have used Linux but even then I do get errors, although fairly minor, they do stop me from doing tasks such as playing games. It generally is a bad laptop - poor battery life and a poor screen which is full of glare and very sub-par in terms of picture quality. The keyboard feels cluttered and all of this just adds up to my conclusion in building a Gaming PC. Although I have not yet decided whether to buy new or used parts, I do want to get the i5 2500K as I have heard that it overclocks very well.

Another reason why laptops are not the best bang for buck computers. When its a problem like this, getting a replacement motherboard is not going to be cheap, then, if you are not comfortable replacing it yourself, getting a tech to do it will cost you about another $150. By this stage you a better off selling it for parts and buying a new laptop or take a chance on a refurbished or used model. So basically, if you get a few good years out of it, you have a case to not repair and just replace it, but if its just out of the standard 12 month warranty, then you are shit out of luck. RAM or hard drive issues are not too bad, and quite easily replaced, but a motherboard issues is something else.
@zulu67567 жыл бұрын
you got that right, but people just don't agree with these facts at all, the portable machines is all they want and the only people that benefit are the manufacturers that make them, because they get sold anyway

Or you could learn and fix the motherboard for few cents or even no cost at all.. It is a short or blown up capacitor 90% of the time, 9% bad mosfet, 1% bios and startup chips or other chips (all you can get from aliexpress or ebay for few cents or few dollars). Repair shops charge $150 for knowledge only (or your lack of it), they don't have any costs to fix your mobo.. it is not that hard to learn those things and average person can try and fix it by himself/herself before spending several hundered dollars for new board, repair shop or new laptop.. knowledge is priceless but cost you nothing.

What you have done is not clear, because it might be a power adapter issue, for example a bad capacitor inside that is not able to drive current anymore and it makes the power-supply shout down right away. 19V 99% of the time is present when is no need for current. You should have used a new power adapter to make sure the board was not working ok But you should have started with continuity test before plug the adapter in. repairing a short circuit is not an hard task, you start removing components one at the time, at least you know when you have found it. And if you find that the power jack is in short circuit, most likely the component that is broken is close to it.
@EastAngliaUK7 жыл бұрын
can you get a shock of just 19 volts?
@pedrof.78217 жыл бұрын
Above 30VCC is not recommended. But it depends on current also.
@Marko_Djuricic6 жыл бұрын
You can't even feel it on the skin. On your tongue it hurts. The question is how much current is going through.. Voltage is just the potential difference between plus and minus.. the bigger the difference (voltage), more current is passing in the unit of time.. skin has big resistance so it "blocks" current from flowing.. if you put million volts, the potential difference (large amount of current) can brake the skin and current can flow and kill you. Tasers have like 50000 volts but limited current to like 0.01 amps so it shocks you but not fataly (can be lethal if it's prolonged time of use or physical condition of your body (heart) is not healthy). Also if those million volts are put on your skin for a nanosecond, you can survive because not enough current can pass in that time (lightning strike survivors for example). So current kills not volts but more volts equals more amps so volts also kill but because current is bigger too and your skin cant handle that much amount of current.. But those 19 volts are fine, no harm at all..
