“Je suis Malade”, now a french classic, was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973. This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …). When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and composed the music in a couple of hours. The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes. Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, it started to be promoted on the radio, and the song was brought to fame only when, a few months after, Dalida covered it. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad. But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s. At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version. She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet during his own Paris concert in January 1995. It was a triumph. So he sat in a front row seat and asked her to sing it again alone. Lara also had made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power. Serge and Lara became good friends and performed several other duets later on. The 1999 version ("From Lara with Love" Concert in Montreal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3m2qp5qiKynq7s is legendary internationally and has attracted many artists to do a cover, even from non french-speaking countries. The most recent ones I am aware of are from italian singer Giulia Falcone, from the korean singer Choi Sung Hoon or from the korean band Forestella. Lara is used to perform the song very differently in each of her tour and for instance the En Toute Intimité, 2003, Paris Olympia version is even more dramatic kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaqsfZeIdrSGbpo

Great reaction as always to such an amazing performance! I recommend the next few songs to react to. Caruso, Broken Vow and Perdere l'amore. Always great to listen to British reactors! Greetings from London 😀

She should be much bigger and more well known. Everybody who knows about Lara is aware of what a powerhouse she is. She deserves to be up there with all the greats.

Thank you for reacting to one of the greatist artists out there. Lara is a world class performer and i'm not surprised that she is one of Dimash's idols. The way she gets into character, tells the story and conveys emotion is just phenomenal. At the end of her performance you can see how she is slowly coming back to reality.

Lara is almost unknown in english speaking countries but a legend in many other countries. But even in US or UK, she has performed in packed Carnegie Hall or Royal Albert Hall 😊

Love Lara and this song! One of the biggest singers ever is missing on your channel: Gabriel Henrique. He was on AGT 2023 but start with his cover of Stand up, or I want to know what love is. Beware, you're not prepared 😲

If you're into something theatrical and powerfull you should listen to Requiem pour un fou. Also the reason why she's not known is because Celine Dion's management strongarmed English speaking radio stations into keeping her off the air. They've reconciled their differences, but unfortunately the strategy worked.

This is my second favorite Lara Fabian song, my #1 is her Caruso and my #3 is Je t'aime (with subtitles because of the endearing thing the audience did for her during a difficult time in her life

It wasn’t her reaction to the audience. I believe she was so into the story of the song and she gave everything she had that it’s taking her a while to get out of the story and song at the end. She’s insane!!! Unbelievable live ❤

We have a French expression in Quebec that is often used to describe Céline and translates into tacky in English.
All right well the lyrics are almost spot on. However English and French are very different languages. So if you're talking about the translation being spot on. You would still have to alter the meaning to fit English properly. There are a {few}words that have been changed for some reason. I don't know why, because it would read the same. I think I only counted three words that were different so a few might be one too many. A few: no less than 4 and no more than 8

The reason lara fabian is not recognised in a big way , is because she is not in the satanic club and I'm glad she is not , those that know her and follow her , all believe that she is the number one female artist in the world ❤

Great reaction to this fabulous performance by Lara. Diana, like Dimash, was inspired by Lara. She is a Star in Russian-speaking countries where she has spent a lot of time. But I'm sure, you'll end up discovering songs she performed there, in your journey with Lara if you continue...

Lyrics are spot on and that song was written in about 30 minutes. The original is from Serge Lama and is about a break up he went through

She put wuch energy and emotions in this song. I see Serge Lama in her posture sometime. At some moments, she live the song. At the end you can hear her laughing when she said je suis malade. Like she's getting mad of this love. At the end it takes her some times to get out of all this emotion that she put in it. Great respect and admiration for her performance.

LOVE that you have discovered Lara - she is one of the best vocalists on the planet! Your question about her reaction at the end .. that she was not expecting the standing ovation. That was not it…. I have seen several times in Lara’s performances where she is so consumed in the song she is not where she is standing while singing it. It is only after the song is over that it is evident she eventually returns to where she actually is and needs a moment to come back to the now

Not sure why people have this thing when she’s compared to Celine. Honestly the first time I heard Lara on the radio I was living in Paris and it was the song Tout back in 1997 and I thought it was Celine. There are similarities especially the first time you hear her. So chill everyone!!! Lara is amazing! Technically better than Celine and amazing storyteller. Why do we need to put one artist down for the sake of the other. Celebrate everyone! Lara has had a huge career she’s doing just fine! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 peace ✌️
