Rick and Lara were a couple for 7 years in the 90s, then broke up but remained best friends. They wrote this song in the early 00s about their fusional relationship. They wrote many albums together and they built her career together. He was her manager for a long time. They stopped working with each other and seeing each other in 2003 (we don’t exactly know why) until they contacted each other a few years ago.

Hello Rollen! Always good to share a bit time with you. Nice to see you too Angie! 👍😍 My "like" is only for Lara. I much prefer to listen to this song in duet with Maurane and I especially don't appreciate this man very much. I know she loved him passionately for 7 years, that he was involved in her career and that they collaborated together on several songs (including this one from their love days). But also I know that he made her suffer a lot, even insulting her on Facebook before claiming that his account had been hacked. Poor Lara was shocked. After this great and painful love, for 13 years they didn't see or talk to each other. Since then, each of them has rebuilt their lives on their own and Lara has finally forgiven.

He acted like a frustrated child a few times and i’m not defending his actions but there is no doubt that Rick loved and still loves Lara (not talking about romantic love but as someone he considered his best friend / soulmate, someone he saw almost every single day for 14 years). He still talks very highly about her and care for her, wrote a song about about her a few years ago, recently shared a fan edit about the two of them…we don’t know what really happened between those two but their relationship is a bit complicated. The insult on Facebook was completely dumb and immature tho…he was obviously hurt to be qualified of « old friend » by her and misinterpreted what she said.

Hello Angie and Rollen! Nice to see you together again. You just have this chemistry...nice! What it comes to this song...well i have to say it's not my favourite. For my taste it's just a little too "qualitiless". And this time it's not so good because the duet is with Rick. He is good making music but i don't take him as a singer. Somebody may think otherwise, but hey it's just my opinion. And what i know. Lara is good as always though. Thanks and keep it coming! 😎

I don't know what qualitiless is exactly, but I love this song. It has some profound associations for me. And I love the lyrics, melody & close harmony. I do, however, _despise_ THIS duet.

@@DoggieFosters Mediocre maybe is the closest synonyme that i know. I just meant that this is not my favourite of all her songs...nothing more. And yes, i can understand that you despise this peticular version...I think quite many have the same feeling about RA... I wonder why...🤔😡

Hi Rollen and Angie, I did like you, I looked for the part that was cut and listened to their duet. There's a lot of resentment towards Rick Allison from some commentators who don't like rick over Lara. I can understand because I was a fan of Celine Dion and her husband and I saw his behavior towards Lara and since then I no longer listen to Celine... It is not for us to judge their story. It's theirs. They met in a piano bar and started their story together until their success. They loved each other and the separation was brutal for Lara. I think it was the artistic separation that hurt him the most because together they chained success after success. But I think he thought he was done with her and maybe he didn't want to work with her anymore. Anyway, I think there was no longer love between but a very strong friendship because when Lara wanted to break into the United States, she fell madly in love musically and emotionally with Walter Affanazief, the American composer. I think they stayed together for two years before breaking up because their relationship was complicated. So Rick is not only wrong. Lara has had several romantic relationships, but I don't have to judge that either, it's only up to her. I admire her as a singer and performer because there aren't many like her who give so much emotion when she sings. She has an incredible stage presence and her beauty has something to do with it and she exudes so much love... Have a nice day to you both!!

As far as I'm concerned I don't judge their past relationship, only they know what it really was. I only express my dislike for this man because it is my feeling. As for his artistic talent, it only touched me through his collaboration with Lara when they were still together. Have a great day 😉

Their relationship was ambiguous and it’s understandable for two people who went from lovers to best friends. Lara said they were too dependent of each other and it impacted the relationships they had with their other partners. He has never been done with her, even now from the way Rick talks about Lara and the way Lara talks about him, it’s obvious they will always love each other like family. We will probably never know what truly happened but as you said, it’s their story.

My understanding of the sequence of events (take it only as it) is that Rick and Lara did break up before she met Walter. But they were still friends and working together on shows, albums and tours until March 17th 2003. That day something happened and he stopped working with her and disappeared from her life. She was devastated. They got reconciliated in 2016 and seems to have good relations now. Some rumors emerged on a potential future collab.

I just checked a bit more and apparently they wrote Je t’aime in 1996 when their love story ended and evolved to a friendship and professional relation. So this was indeed before she met Wlater A
