HI ROSKOE , When a Huge Diva of the last thirty years takes over an iconic title from a Legend of the last fifty years it can only give a masterful performance!!!!! The Brilliant Lara Fabian not only does honor to her idol Barbra Streisand but she truly does justice to this complex song. It takes the talent and extraordinary vocal abilities of a Lara Fabian to dare to attack this "Mastodon" represented by Yentl's songs with her mind-blowing cover of "Papa can you hear me" or more than "an interpretation, the exceptional Lara offers us a moment of rare emotion. Living her songs so much, she unfolds on stage as an accomplished artist and we are in the theater with Lara in the main role playing us the theme of the song. Lara is a complete artist, as we say in English "A Performer". It is quite typical of her way of approaching her interpretations and I imagine that it is even more visible and she excels even more when she takes up the repertoire of her lifelong IDOL, the exceptional and unclassifiable BARBRA STREISAND. What is very remarkable in this specific interpretation is that at several times we do not know if it is Barbra or Lara who sings!!!!! Absolutely impressive, Lara is a singing angel. Thank you my dear Roskoe for this moment of grace. 🤩🤩🤩🗼🗼🗼🌅🌅🌅

Thanks Roskoe for your heartfelt reaction. I knew you would appreciate it ! Lara calls Barbra the Empress! This to said how much she admires Barbra. And Barbra also appreciate Lara a lot. She did cover Broken Vow (unfortunately it has not been recorded) and she was amazed by the cover Lara made of Je suis malade. She said to Lara “You are very good, and I am not used to say this type of thing very often”. I posted responses to other comments that includes some reactions of mine to some of your own words.

Hello again Roskoe! Everything you said was on point. This 27 year old Queen here is worth all the money. It is one of the most wonderful thing in life to see and hear her on stage. Not only her super beautiful and powerful voice and extremely accurate and technical singing but her living the message of the songs and acting and performing those lyrics is something you don't see done by anybody else. And it can be in english, french, spanish, italian...it doesn't matter what language. She draws you in to her inner soul while performing and you can't escape. And you don't want to. 😁 It is a great priviledge to live in same time era with Lara and hear her singing in all these decades. Thank you Roskoe for choosing this Eric's suggestion. Just great! Too bad these wonderful concert recordings doesn't exist in better quality. We can't have everything, right? 😎

Easy answer for me: Fabian. Her full voice & timbre hits my neural net like velvet. She is the only soprano I've ever loved (I'm a contralto sort of gal.) I admire Streisand's technical mastery, enormously, but I've never found her voice pleasing nor her presentation of material up my alley. 🤷🏻♀️

Hi Roscoe, your'e spot on as always. Love for you to react to Lara's cover of Mariah's song Vision Of Love. She slays it as usual with her funky rendition.

Oh lawdy. Roskoe trying to start a diva war! Be warned, Mr. DJ, they get ugly! Seriously, I love that these songs penned by iconic songwriters Marilyn and Alan Bergam (RIP Marilyn) with music by the iconic Michel Legrand (RIP) have become classics and some amazing vocalists have covered them. Barbra brought us the stunning originals, but talent such as Lara (and Regina Vasquez, Morissette, Cynthia Erivo, Michael Crawford, etc.) have confirmed the timelessness of the material. I am certain that pleases Barbra, her chosen family (the Bergmans), and dear friend Michel.

I love both Barabara & Lara. Another singer who sings this same amazing song is Regine Velasquez. On your Barabara reaction, I gave u the name of the video but it's incorrect. I found a better one with good audio & video quality, it's on Sonny Azurin's channel called Regine Velasquez - One Night With Regine.

The video is a recording of the whole concert, so u need to forward it to the 2 hour & 5 minute mark to hear the Yentl song.
@ericsicard910 Жыл бұрын
And regine covered Broken Vow of Lara Fabian 😀 The late Michel Legrand, french and composer of these 2 Yentl songs (he won an oscar for it, his 3rd as he also won it for windmills of your mind/thomas crown affair and Summer of 42) explicitly refered as Lara’s and Regine’s covers as the best he has heard. For me Lara tops it due to her acting and interpretation skills but both versions are great indeed.

Wow... so Lara gets reacted to twice on the same Barbra medley?? Ok, the gloves are off!!!🤣 Seriously though...since you asked for a comparison... here's mine... First of all, let me qualify that art, in any form, is subjective. Having said that, for me, there is no comparison on this particular selection. Not speaking so much vocally as Lara does an outstanding cover of this medley vocally, but as for presentation, authenticity, and delivery, well no one could possibly top Barbra's...simply because the lyrics were written specifically for her, and she is interpreting them from her heart's own personal connections, not just performing them from memory. When Barbra made the movie Yentl she was 41 years old; she hadn't performed it live until 1994 at the age of 52 when she returned to the stage after a 27-year hiatus. In contrast, Lara was just 27 years old when she performed the medley in this video. But for me personally, it was too theatric and somewhat contrived; all that moving back and forth on the stage wasn't necessary, and I feel it detracted and distracted from the lyrics. It lacked the natural spontaneity and cathartic emotion I feel one gets from Barbra's performance. But again, that makes sense when you consider Barbra's personal history with the movie, the score, and her own father. So, Roskoe...I'm asking if you will 'please' react to my original request of this medley...the one that says "Barbra - 1994 - Anaheim - Yentl Medley" (9:43). I think the OG deserves another bow on her own iconic medley, don't you 😉?

I think Lara just took another interpretation path of the lyrics. In her version I feel it’s more a battle from a woman to exists in a man’s world and to make her father proud of her. These themes are present in the lyrics written for Barbra but Barbra also brings in her interpretation of it the painful jewish history and the place of women in the jewish culture. Lara is not jew so this is not resonating in her case. Roskoe had a point: i call this perf “Lara in broadway mode”. Afaik Lara played in 2 movies. She had a small role, of a debuting singer, in a 2004 hollywood movie, with Kevin Kline and Ashley Judd. The movie was called De-Lovely and was portraying the life of Cole Porter. Last year, she had a role, short againbut very impactful in the story, in a movie from Quebec called “Arlette”. In this movie, she is the french culture minister and she meets the main female character who portrays the quebec equivalent, they have a relationship together and even have a nude scene 😂 And Lara looked stunning at the age of 52 😱 lol

@Eric Sicard I see your point, Eric, and yes, I agree that Lara's performance of this song is more Broadway-ish. But, and again, keeping in mind that art is subjective, for this particular medley of songs, I prefer the more organic delivery and message Barbra brings to the performance. Don't get me wrong, Lara's vocals here are superb! I've heard several other artists too, like Regine Valesquez, Lea Salonga, Jona, and even Cynthia Erivo, perform either just "Piece of Sky" or this medley, and all too were superb vocally. [Not a one, btw, including Lara, even attempted that ridiculous 19-second note that Barbra delivers at the end of her original recording.] Really though, anyone with a significant vocal range and technique could perform it. But it takes that intangible for me that makes one stand out over all the others. I don't know, but there's a magic that exudes when Streisand sings a song; she conveys more expression with just her face and eyes, than most do with their entire bodies. You always sense it's coming from a place of personal experience, whether in reality it is or isn't. I guess the best way I can describe it is... when I hear or see Barbra sing, I feel the story she's lyrically delivering is in 3D, sometimes even 4D, while everyone else's is in 2D. But again, it's just my subjective opinion.

@@donnamentrasti2695 I fully respect your point of view and your personal feelings there. I am also a fan of Barbra, and of Michel Legrand BTW, but I resonate personally more with Lara, and the way she conveys emotions. And also Lara has proved times and times again she can hold notes longer than that (check her 21s last note with modulation up and decrescendo on You are not from here if you want an example). And she can do that in live conditions. Holding a note in studio cut scenes recording or live after having run the stage like Lara did here is not the same thing, not at all the same stamina requested.
