I have G15 tinted prescription sunglasses which I like although sometimes I wonder about looking cooler with some fancy gradient lenses instead.

Another great video! I l really need this one! I was wondering, would you ever consider making a video explaining roll and polish and edge rolling? I cannot really seem to see the difference between them. Thank you!
@LaramyKOptical2 жыл бұрын
I mention it in an upcoming video. In the world today there is no call for a roll. Anyone can wear contact lenses. You have 1.74 material. You have the optical knowledge to guide frame choice. You have bi-convex and bi-concave in a pinch, etc. It was a thing when CR-39 was the only material choice. John

Great video, thank you so much. I wish a could get so much attention by my optician. I've been to a few in the NY City-New Jersey area, and they want customers in-and-out as quickly as possible to maximize the number of orders. When I ordered my prescription sunglasses, they didn't even ask what color I wanted, they assumed purple since the frame I chose was the same color. I was never asked about material of the lenses, either. They love adding extras (such as AR, which looks weird on my purple lenses). My impression is that the lens/frames conversations with the customers are done by the billing clerks as the eye doctor office, not true opticians, who only get involved if there are any issues that the clerk can't address. Maybe I'm wrong and they are just in a hurry to get to the next guy. I have a question on the so-called "mirror" lenses, which replicate the mirror effect on the front of the lens (ex. Crizal Mirrors). Any disadvantages of these type of lenses? I do like the appearance of them.

Both NY and NJ have some pretty tough regulations on opticians. You just need to look harder for an independent optician. Get out of the big-box, get out of the chain, get out of the doctor's office. Last time I was in Wyckoff NJ a few years ago they still had one. NYC certainly still has them. John

Hi,Thanks a lot for these video series. Really helpful for Opticians like me. A couple of questions; Does blue tint has any adverse effect ? Is it a recommended color for tinting , especially for those who uses their prescription sunglasses for driving and all? Secondly, when we use CR 39 1.5 index for tinting, can we guarantee a 100% UV block?

Blue light will be covered in an upcoming video. Tinting and UV treatments are covered in the other video I suggest you watch in this one. John

Hello, I'd like to get your precious advice, since it's very rare to get reliable advice anywhere you go (optician shops, doctors). My wife has a prescription of - 4 sph and - 1.75 cyl. 1) Is it safe for her eyes if she uses a single eye-glasses with Photofusion X lenses? They are tinted 7% when most transparent. Will it strain her eyes, if she reads a phone screen or book in low-light, and maybe it's better to get 1 pair of opticals and 1 sunglasses (if there are no eye-strain dangers, she definitely prefers to have only the photochromic pair though)? 2) This is about photochromic or regular sunglasses, the lens colour: between grey brown and green, many on the Internet say brown is the best for people with myopia. But I have myopia too and they always suggested me green and I have been very comfortable always. What colour should she pick? Are there "wrong" picks among the 3 that could damage her vision? Thank you, as always

Zeiss makes some great products. She should be 100% good with the PhotoFusion X for everything. Especially if that is what she wants and likes. Even a plain lens doesn't have 100% transmission. Color choice is entirely yours. I've never read anything about color and refractive errors in my life. Color and contrast yes. Color and color recognition yes. No wrong pick there. Whatever she likes best. Sounds like you are on your way to a happy wife and we all know - happy wife = happy life. John

@@ThePilot5200 Sorry but we are a wholesale lab so we don't deal directly with the public and I don't have a tint tank here in the training center anymore. Any, and I mean any, decent optical shop should have no trouble making up or ordering you up a light gradient blue tint.

What are your thoughts on yellow lenses for driving at night?
@LaramyKOptical2 жыл бұрын
No. If you can see yellow that lens is blocking light. Less light = less sight and when driving at night that is a bad thing. You may well PERCEIVE a difference when there isn't an actual advantage. But like religion and politics some people believe what they will.

Why front AR is a bad idea?Is there any pro for front AR on the tinted lenses?
@LaramyKOptical2 жыл бұрын
The idea of a sunglass tint is to REDUCE the amount of light passing through the lens. The idea of an AR is to INCREASE the amount of light passing through a lens. Hence placing an AR is the opposite of what you want. Backside (supposedly) reduces some light interference and (supposedly) reduces some light being reflected off the back of the lens and into your eye (supposedly) but heck all my sunglasses have it.
