On the one hand, longer hangar door blocks would be nice. On the other hand, there's nothing quite like a well-designed multi-grid merge-block door. Great work.

Ohhhhhhh . . . . . .I get it now, it's a merge block to initially hold it in place and provide power. That is a very creative and elegant solution and VERY pleasing to the eye: this sparks joy.

Keen could make large hangar doors just by doubling the height of the block. Using two opposing blocks, the clearance is less than 10 meters. Less than four large grids can pass. There are already mods as proof of concept. So doing that for vanilla would open up new opportunities.

i think it might look a bit better if that arm came down from above first then the doors open, the exact reverse of the closing

How you solving the problem I have, I get door closed fine, but when trying to open it, the door part stays static grid after merge blocks goes off? And have to say that looks fantastic

you cant have a full block touching a full block when they merge or its permanent from what ive seen you have to use sloped blocks so they connect permanently

I'm curious, is there a specific reason why the top arm is not perma connected and instead merged as needed? Or is it just for looks?

Make sure that only the "MERGE BLOCK" comes into contact with all the contact points!

I tried to make a door very similar to this and every time the door goes to open, the middle section stays as a static grid. The only part touching parent grid is the merge block. Any tips or advice?

The corners of the cubes around the merge block at the gate frame must not touch either. Use half-height cubes around the merge block. I also experienced this phenomenon during construction. Ask, I'll be happy to help!

nice work. tried to do the same on my server but it wont work cause the gate stays a station block and is not moveable. i have to convert the gate to ship manually. that sucks

why does your painted stripes change when the door first starts to open?

As a software developer, I think the reason for this is trivial. When the "merge block" takes over the capture of the middle part, the location of the vector for the blocks changes. It is caused by swapping XYZ vectors because the game engine places the texture based on them. (This effect is not caused by cutting.) :-)

Ok so I have tried this an I can't get it to work..I have everything set up but after bringing the mid part down an locking into place I can't get it back up as it's in station mode...can't figure it out what I'm doing wrong

Apply half-height elements around the "MERGE BLOCKS". Only "MERGE BLOCK" contacts. Write how it went. I will gladly help!
