The salt story is too funny! My great grandparents I was lucky enough to have in my life until I was in my 20s and one of the gifts I remember them giving was a massive roll of both aluminum foil and plastic wrap. I swear they lasted years too. My cousin wrote the year on hers she got it and I think it didn’t run out for a good 5-6 years. Those quirky gifts but practical are always remembered the most I think. Cant help but smile every time I have to bring out any foil or plastic wrap because it reminds me of them!

I remember my grandma making whoopie pies when I was little. I remember she made just a few like one tray that she rolled in crushed up candy canes and she always set those on the table separately. I guess I always thought those looked very Christmassy. As an adult I don't ever believe that I've made whoopie pies and I don't know why not. Good memories. I'm going to put this away for next year or maybe Valentine's Day.

I made a ton of whoppie pies this year. A local store asked me to make some for them. So of course they had to be perfect, therefore ended up way more than what the store needed. My family loved it!

Whoopie pies come from Maine. At least that's the long standing story. In true Mainer "waste nothingness" a lady had batter leftover after filling her cake pans. So she dropped the leftovers on a sheet pan and the rest is delicious history. 😋

I really enjoyed making cookies with you this morning! We are a small family and no one we celebrate with so I make a big batch of cookies and bake some but I scoop balls of dough and freeze them. So whenever we want cookies we just pop some in the oven. I let mine sit on the counter for a bit and then bake off. Again, thank you for the baking time. Hope you have hot water soon. :)

@amymaryon I done all my holiday baking yesterday and today tons of cookies peanut butter balls Oreo balls dipped Oreos in white chocolate made chocolate covered pretzels for our Christmas Eve charcuterie board then tomorrow I’m doing my cakes n pies Friday morning I’m going to assemble all my casserole and dressing then sat morning I can just throw them in the oven to warm it up cook my ham and roast wooo a lot to do but it’s worth it to see my family enjoy it merry Christmas I hope you and your family have a very blessed Christmas

For the hot water heater... We normally call a bunch of different plumbers, and get prices for the equipment in the install together. It's so quick when they do it, and it gets everything up and running fast. A lot of them have different ones already in stock or at least that's been our experience.

Good morning Amy I can relate with no hot water, I’ve been without hot water tank since mid May this year/2021. I’m in northern Illinois and am considering keep on keeping on to see how far i can live without replacing it. It’s amazing the amount of water that is saved without one. I only used hot water for washing whites, dishes, showers. I’ve not noticed any difference in the (whites) laundry since I turned off the hot water tank (it was leaking). Teaching children how to cook, clean, upkeep of a home for themselves often is over looked (sadly) by many families. As well as how to trouble shoot problems and how to do without ❤️ Love your KZbin channel, God Bless you and your family and Merry Christmas!

Yum everything looks delicious!!! 😊 I had to use cornstarch to thicken up my whoopie pie filling this year, very good to know about the flour and milk, I never would have thought of that. To get a dark chocolate I use the special dark Hershey's cocoa powder, I sometimes sprinkle on some cayenne pepper before putting the tops on, yum and they aren't hot. I love Christmas baking and cooking ❤

If you want fluffy chocolate chip cookies use vanilla pudding in place of the white sugar. One small box is 1/2 cup. Cookies stay soft as well.

I use vanilla pudding too but I leave in the sugar & it’s not too sweet-my husband love chocolate chip cookies again. I also make oatmeal scotchies with butterscotch pudding & he loves them 😋😋😋

@@lauriemaddux9597 I got my recipe from Pinterest it’s the chocolate chip pudding cookies & they are delicious. I back up a dozen or so & put the rest in the freezer. When ready to make more, I take out a bunch and let them thaw for about 5-10 mins & back for 10-11 mins depending on how thawed they are.

I want to thank you for your inspiration through the year and to Wish you all a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!! I have been very busy the last few days and will be until Christmas which is only like 2 days for me. I have stuff to wrap and baking to finish, also still have a few things to buy. Gifting all homemade things this year. It went well last year so figured I would do it again. I will catch up on videos after Christmas but probably not going to have time until then.

I actually really like the tip about just using your counter for no bake cookies. Never even thought about it and if it's nice and clean really no big deal. I actually made do that from now on. I did want to give you a hint that you may know but the school cafeteria when I was little 50 plus years ago made no bake cookies that were just peanut butter and I really love them for a change they were different from what we had at home to the point I asked the school cook for the recipe and the recipe she gave me was tell your mom not to put the cocoa in. I went home and bragged about these cookies and gave her the recipe mom ended up calling the school to make sure I got the instructions right and yes they were. I still prefer the chocolate ones but for a change of pace if we're making them often or even if I run out of cocoa powder the peanut butter ones are a treat also. Thought if you didn't realize and you've been doing your cocoa ones frequently maybe a change up on the peanut butter ones might work for you.

Powdered milk is very handy to have, I always have a stock of it. I use it for so many dishes in the kitchen, it’s even great when made warm for cereal too and Chai latte etc. . Laughing at Ruby licking her lips at the chicken lol.

Yep, that was a good question all-purpose flour unsalted just means no self rising flour due it has salt and baking powder in it. I can see how that be confusing on the package.

Iodized salt is important for proper thyroid function and to prevent goiters. Using iodized salt is the easiest way for most people to get the iodine their bodies need. The Great Value recipe is the same as the Toll House recipe.

I use the nestle recipe just switch up my sugars cuz my kids like a chewy cookie so when it says 3/4 c of each brown and white I use 1c brown sugar and 1/2c white sugar they aren't so crisp...the great value cookie recipe is the same as nestle and from my experience of making those cookies for many yrs at least once a month sometimes more it depends on your flour I find weather makes a difference cuz flour will absorb water in the air it looks like your flour had extra water to it thats what it was kind sticky. I'm not an expert just a home cook for my 5 kids but I've done lots of research over the yrs baking and cooking. Cookies are hard anything baking cuz the flour will always be different just from my understanding. I've also experienced that the brand of brown sugar makes a difference...your cookies look good I'm sure they tasted amazing and kids aren't that picky I've messed up plenty of times and my kids didn't care.

Whoop pies are Mennonite . I know because I am a Mennonite. We make whoop pies all the time.
