In this video, I explore an area between Tehachapi and Bakersfield, CA. I also introduce you to my new 4x10 camera set up. Then I photograph a few trees and a couple of trains. I hope you enjoy the video!

16:12 This one turned out great. The motion blur makes the train look alien and futuristic, and there’s a tension between the ongoing momentum of that which has long since passed and the momentum that has yet to come.

Great video and images, as always. I was in that general area in March 2022 when the wildflowers were in full bloom along CA 223 between Arvin and CA 58. I did have a weird experience there, though. I parked in a gravel area to the side of the road near the Arvin Cross with a bunch of other folks out looking at the wildflowers, and wandered off with my camera and tripod. By the time I returned, only my car and another car parked really close to mine on the passenger side (about 5 feet away) were left in the parking area that was about 100 yards wide. I put my gear away, got in the car, and noticed two guys sitting in the car next to me. I didn't think much of it and drove off. About a half mile down the road, I noticed that my tire pressure monitor indicated low tire pressure on my right front tire. I pulled over and confirmed that the pressure was low, but not flat, and I couldn't see any cause (i.e., nail) after inspection. I drove into Arvin and reinspected my tire and still found no apparent cause, but when I went to fill the tire with air, the valve stem cap was missing. I know that i put the cap back in place after filling my tires with air a few weeks before. I drove all the way back to San Diego (250 miles) without losing pressure in the tire. At the risk of sounding paranoid, I had to wonder if the two guys in the car that parked so close to mine intentionally let the air out of my tire in hopes that I would notice, get out, and check the tire, giving them the opportunity to jump/rob/assault me while I was bent down looking at the tire. It would have been a perfect set-up because both cars were parked perpendicular to the road, and anyone driving by wouldn't have been able to see what was going on between the cars. It was an isolated area with low traffic about an hour before sunset. My imagination may have gotten the better of me, and the two guys could have been harmless. Still, in retrospect, too many things seemed out of place. Keep your Spidey senses up even in remote areas.

I used to live in Tehachapi and have up and down Woodford Tehachapi road many many times Used to stop by the loop numerous times I remember that wreck I didn't know it was still there

Hi Mark. I order Ilford 4x10 film during their annual ULF film run. For color film, I cut 8x10 sheets in half.

Just finished watch this as your new Pateron. :) Great video and images. PS Isn't there a half-dark slide for 8x10 holders that get you close to 4x10? I have one for my Chamonix 4x5.

Thanks for joining me on Patreon! That's a good point. I actually used the split dark slide method before purchasing the Shen Hao 4x10. It worked fine, but there were a few drawbacks as well.

There is half dark slide for 8x10. Then you do not need a separate film holder, but you got to be really careful not to double expose your 8x10 film. Mine is by Chamonix .

So with the 8x10 you had a pano holder made. Why not just crop in post to the size you want? Wouldn't that give you more options? I thank you for the video they are quite informative and relaxing as well.

I prefer composing the photo in the field. If I see a subject that works well as a Pano, then that's how I photograph it. It's also half the cost of an 8x10 sheet of film. Thanks for watching!
