Zala Machine, you could do no better that looking at Dave Wilks videos. Now there is a bloke on top of the game.

Just a heads up guys. The coolant should be run through the tool.. especially on long jobs like this. What can happen is the core gets bigger and the bore gets smaller which can result in the tool getting jammed in the job. The flow of coolant reduces to almost nothing coming out as the core gets tighter in the tool.

The guy below userwl2850 ( Dave ) has A Lot of experience with Trepanning. It,s mostly all he does. I have to agree with the comment about the Coolant. And Add that if you use More Coolant it will help to flush the chips from the tool also. When you withdrew the tool there was a lot of build up along your tool. Not trying to be negative just involved in your channel. Enjoying your video,s looking forward to more. Thanks for sharing. Peter.

Gratulacje Panowie, piękny warsztat. Niesamowite maszyny, niesamowita robota.

Hello, very interesting model drill, Especially the solution with the supply of liquid from the outside of the drill through a special channel, tell the channel what is closed ? Sealing rubber ?
@zalamachineshop4 жыл бұрын
Actually yes we sealed it with rubber. Works good and we use this tool all the time. In the past we just drilled it now we trepan to save time and get a nice chunk of good material.

How deep? How did you centralise the tool to the steady? How much time saved from boring and drilling?
@seanb98184 жыл бұрын
A trepan tool will go as deep as the depth of the bore of the tool. This particular tool used in the video has a shank which is clamp by the tail stock or saddle (depending on the machine) and is often set within 0.010" thus allowing the steady to be touched on to the diameter of the tool and locked. The tools we use bolt onto our combination turret. With 4 nuts and threaded bar. And because they are old machines we have to use a dti on the work piece to check the tool for concentricity. If we are trepanning inconel or other none magnetic materials we use the chuck to set the tool before loading the work piece.

You should have flood coolant directly through the centre of the trepanning tool, as no dwarf can clog up coolant flow, as it can with the design of the trepanning tool used in the film clip, especially when cutting g tough material
@zalamachineshop4 жыл бұрын
Good point. Next time we make one of these we will take that into consideration. Thanks Paul Perrrin.

Why can't you just use a long stick with an insert on it? Like a boring bar the just lets the face run over the insert. Why do you need to catch the slug as you go?
@zalamachineshop2 жыл бұрын
This is a proven technique for over a hundred of years now. The slug has to go somewhere and if there is no support it will slump over and possible pinch a single point tool. Plus in order to do this type of cut you need a thin fixturing for the cutting insert and a single boring bar just wouldn't cut it. Literally.
@Davemcmasters5 жыл бұрын
