You are just a real maniac machinist and at the same time an engineer and inventor of various special machine tools, this is very cool and worthy of respect!

Very good work. Trepanning in the CNC lathe would have my hand over the Big Red Button! Nice tooling and holder. Certainly saves a lot of material and time.

Yea exactly. I get comments that it's a waste of time and yada yada yada. But that's 400 great pieces of material that will eventually prove very useful and save us lots of money.

Great Job! I like the fact that you can reuse the core. is there any special geometry on the tool required? i would like to try this out myself.

What's the part For? What's the purpose of it being from a solid blank instead of hollow stock? Or just better material wise to use the cores for the same project or another?
@zalamachineshop
@zalamachineshop 2 жыл бұрын
I don't remember finding out what this was for. We got a drawing and an order and we got it done. The slugs we reuse on other jobs. Most of our jobs are small quantity and when in need of a blank we cut a piece off or 2 and get the parts done. The material is high quality 4140 alloy, we work with it everyday.

Isn't there 4140 in weldless tubing available? Great work tho
@zalamachineshop
@zalamachineshop 3 жыл бұрын
Customer supplied material. 4140 tube is available but not in all sizes and specs. It is cheaper a lot of times to buy solid and drill.

Isn't hitting the part with a hammer going to damage the bearings?

@modris2980
@modris2980 3 жыл бұрын
How would it even damage the bearings? I can't imagine the scenario. At most the chuck jaws but those would be for soft jaws with low clamping pressure or too big chuck clearance so it doesn't grip too well and even if he hammers till the part drops out in such a scenario it wouldn't even do anything to the bearings?
@spazzywhitebelt
@spazzywhitebelt 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah that doesn't seem to be a concern for lathes but you wouldn't want to bang mill spindle like that. Either way don't hammer into the indicator as that'll damage it

That's a lot of material not wasted as chips. Good stuff. So do customers come to your shop knowing that they can buy back or get back the remaining material? Or is it just for yourself, because you know you can use that material on other jobs for other customers? Maybe the same customer for a smaller part. I'd imagine a customer would find it interesting to factor in the total cost, because they most likely don't need to send over another hundred stock for the job. it pre-built in the first one. :D
