Anneka meets a pack of wolves at the most Northerly wildlife reserve in Norway - Polar Park. She is accepted into the pack and howls alongside them. Norway only has around 100 wolves left in the whole country and they are regularly culled. Anneka hopes to show that these beautiful and majestic animals are misunderstood, mislabelled and deserve protection and the freedom to repopulate areas they once thrived.
Norway is a huge remote wilderness, but despite the mountains and wild terrain, they Government only allows around 100 wolves to exist at any one time. The wolves are culled annually to keep the numbers low. This is genetically very unhealthy, so with proper flock guardians, it would be great to see the wolf return to the north of the country like in days of old. Polar Park's new Predator Programme hopes to encourage farmers to be more tolerant of this age old predator and use responsible means to allow both their livestock and the wolves to exist.

Please if you love wolves! Reach out to the current Trump administration, your representative, wildlife Services, asking them to NOT de-list them from the endangered species act ( ESA). If they remove them from this protection they will be once again hunted to the fringe of extinction. EVERY VOICE counts truly you make a difference. This is not and should not be a political issue. The science doesn’t back up the removal. They currently live in only 10% of there natural habitat in the U.S. Thank you for caring for those who are defenseless.

I think when Anneke is discussing wolves, or wolf dogs, she’s at her best… in her element. Obviously she can speak on domestic canines as well, but the knowledge she seems to show for wolf behavior and pack pecking order is awesome! And how to behave around wolves; the same information can be applied in various ways to domestic dogs. She says they only accept women, or at least more readily than men, and her calming movements (and knowledge of the pack) must’ve enabled her camera crew to come in as well.

Anneka, you are one of the bravest people ever to let a wolf get so close as to lick your mouth. Having said that, there has to be a very good reason why the ancestors of these animals eventually became our best friends. Obviously, not as terrifying and dangerous to us as we are led to believe.

I say they found it to be irritating to the ears. The 2nd wolf(left) whined first before beginning a howl. Just like dogs with sirens; loud noises of all sorts. They will bark and howl not because they want to but becaise it's an instinctive howl of the loud sound irritating them. Don't forget that dogs have their senses far much sensitive than a humans'. To them loud human chatter is like a group of people yelling back and forth. So if you yell, to them it is the equivalent of sounding an airhorn.

As a Norwegian, let me just say a big thanks for shining a light on the wolf situation here in Norway. Actually, it's a predator situation in general, as bears, lynxes and wolverines are also all endangered for similar reasons, though the wolf is definitely getting the short end of the stick. The root of the problem isn't actually the Norwegian public, which has been polled to be overwhelmingly in favour of leaving the wolves alone and let them repopulate, with the people against it being a small minority of farmers primarily living in the Hedmark region. The problem is the sheep industry here, which have most politicians on their side due to them generating a fair bit of money for the country, and said sheep farmers also have a monetary incentive to lie about their sheeps' deaths, due to the government actually paying them more money if their livestock is lost to predators than if they slaughter the sheep and sell the meat. There's been studies done on this topic, and in the majority of cases where the government had ruled a sheep death as "death by wolf", it was a case of the animal falling off a cliff to their death, dying of disease or other accidents, and then a predator (sometimes a wolf, but often not) would eat part of the corpse later on after the sheep was already dead. Norway's ecosystem is all out of balance due to the lack of predators, we've got a huge overpopulation of moose and deer as a result of it, and despite what naïve Norwegian hunters think, humans can't all replace the predator roles in the ecosystem, we need them to keep our landscape from getting sick. You can't babyproof nature and just keep the "cute" animals, they're all necessary, and if you get rid of one species, a lot of others that rely on them will follow.

you know what astonishes me? the fact that this person has a delicate way of speaking yet braver than many in this world. She kept her composure. Didn't flinch/react when one showed aggression towards another. Being a lady is one thing but acting like one as well as being wise and brave... that is a dangerous combo.
@peachysandie
@peachysandie 4 жыл бұрын
The reason she was so calm(on the outside) is probably because she was instructed by the park rangers/caretakers(and/or she has nerves of steel). I've been to the park (I didn't visit the wolves because I wasn't old enough), and they are very clear in how to act when you get into the habitat. So yes she was calm on the outside, but there is a possibility she wanted to freak out on the inside😊😅

I was able to go to a wolf park in the USA just like this one and it really is amazing how much I connected with them. They kissed me the same way and wanted me to greet them the same way. It’s crazy how much we really connected and I was able to lay down with them. I was able to howl with them and was stunned when they joined in. I was able to run with them, play with them aggressively and passively and also watch them feed. It’s not an exaggeration when they say these animals are the ancestors to Mans best friend. The media, movies, and ignorant people portray these lovely animals in all the wrong was by demonizing them when actually they are very friendly and once they consider you a friend and basically some what apart of the pack they look out for you. The second time I visited they remembered me and one of the researchers/scientist told me they will never forget me and the pitch and tone of my howl. If anyone is debating on going to a wolf park I highly suggest it. It really is a wonderful experience and life changing because you really do join a family the day you go. The best part about all of it was the second time I went the alpha female named liane had a liter of 9 pups and she was so trusting of me that she let me actually hold them, play with them, and let them greet me. People who have known the pack for years so that’s not a common occurrence. I hope anyone who reads this gives it a try and doesn’t let misinformation stray you away from bonding with this beautiful animals for life. It is true that wolves mate for life and that a bond with them is forever.

You have exactly the wrong impression because what u watched in that park is NOT a wild animal behaving well...as it will in their free natural environment; your opinion is the same as that of any other youtube videos showing "lions hand-feeded by humans", "tigers playing with men", etc, etc; those are deeply domesticated beasts (as far as "domestication" of a wild beast can go, but yes, indeed if you isolate the animal from its natural environment and basically raise him as a dog or cat it gets pretty accustomed to human presence/games) and in no way behaving like one you encounter in the middle of a forest or mountain that's not part of a closed park; so wolves ARE wild savage beasts because it's in their nature and needed for a survival; once man domesticated them long ago they became dogs; but original wolf will always be a killer machine
@masacross8551
@masacross8551 4 жыл бұрын
Juan Fonseca Those wolves are most certainly not domesticated. They may live in a park, but besides that, they’re just as wild as any other wolf. A wolf that hunts for their own food and spends all their time with other wolves isn’t domesticated because there’s no one giving them food and saying how to behave. The only human contact these wolves have is with park staff and the occasional visitor. You could argue they are more used to human contact than other wolves, but that alone doesn’t label them ‘pets’ or ‘tamed’. If the woman in this video did everything she said not to do when meeting wolves, she would’ve gotten herself hurt or even killed.

@@masacross8551 If you think a wolf in the wild would allow you within 50km's of it than you're utterly naive. The wolves in this video are in fact domesticated; still a wolf none the less.
@masacross8551
@masacross8551 4 жыл бұрын
@@canadianehbignorth7325 So basically what you're saying is that if I was within 50 kilometers of a wolf I'd be dead? That's one of the most ludicrous statements I've ever heard. The furthest a wolf can smell is 1.75 to 2 miles, which is about 1.6 to 3.2 kilometers. There may be wolves that can smell further than that, but even if they could smell me, they'd only attack me if they were either threatened or hungry. Otherwise, I'd be fine.

They are so adorable. I love wolves. I think they are one of the most majestic, most beautiful, most enigmatic creatures ever to exist.

@Amanda Balder no. At least here in Norway about less than one percent of the farm animal that went "missing" (dead) was due to wolfes. And by this I mean including death by diseases and etc. If we only count on death by predators then it's about 9%

@Amanda Balder ok I will admit my research was lil outdated, but I checked and out of all the animals that's identified as the killer the wolf is the smallest percentage there, exept for the eagle with a shocking 7%.
