Thanks. Also the webbing at the top of the stipe on porcini is white and on bitter bolete it’s dark.

I stumbled upon this video after hearing about a "Penny Bun" referenced in a Latvian movie called "The Sign Painter". As I was researching what that was, my Google search led me to your delightful video. And now I'm a fan of your whole Wild Food channel.

Wonderful specimen! I have had the best year ever for the Penny Bun, I don't know how it was across the uk, but here there was an early Autumn flush of Botlets, and each trip I came back with three or four. None quite so large as that though. I recently paid 5 euros for a single shroom on a French market, truly a prized mushroom. ..(all the same , i still prefer the shaggy parasol) Thanks for the wonderful videos and information, I have recently stumbled upon these and have topped up so much precious knowledge. I haven't finished them all yet, but in case you haven't done a piece on one berry id like to know more on please enlighten me, I struggle to find out much as I do not know the name. It's a little orange fella that grows in clumps all year round, along the branch of much less offensive spikes than a haw or black thorn, but spikes none the less. Its tangy and delicious, almost too sharp. There was a bush in an open part of an underpass and I picked them each day on the way to work. Too fiddly for more than a few. Cheers Joe

Are even the pores worth eating? On vids of various "lesser" boletes it's suggested you dismiss the pores, haven't noticed any such advice regarding ceps.

Can you do a video that compares similar species of boletes? Or lay out several individuals of the same species side by side, because they vary in color and size and shape and age... I had hard time to identify if what I got was porcini or pine boletes or it's B. reticulatus or... you know.

I know the video is old but like me some people still get to watch. My question is why people pulling off muschrooms with roots? The mushrooms should be cut at the base with a knife. That way allows new ones grow in the same place next year, otherwise it disturbs root system and diminish harvest next season. Smh🙁
@frenchyadamson
@frenchyadamson 3 жыл бұрын
Actually this is a misconception, studies have shown that pulling the mushroom out doesn't diminish the 'harvest' the following season. Leaving the stump in will not mean that a mushroom will grow in the exact same place the following year. The stump will rot away and the mycelium will fruit again, not necessarily in the exact same spot. The same happens if you twist and pull the mushroom out.

I've just found one that is quite yellow on the sponge and gently browned on the stalk. It is about 5 times the size of that one. It looks amazing. I've sent pics to a shroom ID group just in case I got the ID wrong.

GREAT CHANNEL! If only i would have found it at the beginning of mushroom season (i live in sweden) , as when i went in the woods i found plenty of bolete family mushrooms. Im sure about one coz it looks exaclty the same , the sponge was white, and had quite a firm texture. I found plenty of other of the bolete family (as they looked almost exactly the same) but the only difference was that they were quite soggy (maybe coz old or excessive rain) and they had quite a sharp yellow/greenish hue in the gills area, had also a darker stem color, almost reddish , and had less of a dome shape. Any guesses? so i guess im training for next season. Keep up the awesome channel guys!

You didn't take it out by the root? I read that you should cut an inch or so above the ground or it won't be able to grow back
@MalinaImport
@MalinaImport 3 жыл бұрын
that's incorrect. it's fine to take the mushroom out fully. it's just the fruiting body, the mycelium is alive and well underground.
