Thank you for all the suggestions, Jess, & especially for challenging yourself to use a difficult-to-use patterned paper. For those of us who are super-cheap, I have a suggestion for mats. For a design such as this paper busting template where you could get away without matting each piece, I would just have a heavyweight white card base & adhere a thinner (and cheaper) colored cardstock panel to the front. I use Recollections 110 lb. (300 g/sm) white cardstock for my card bases, which I usually get on sale. It's a good heavy weight and I find perfect for card bases. By using colored cardstock panels (I can get 4 A2 size panels out of 1 sheet of letter-size cardstock), I don't have to keep heavyweight colored cardstock - which is usually pricier & often not as readily available locally - on hand for card bases. Yes, it's an extra layer, but I'm fine with that. I'd have to add a panel inside if I had a dark card base anyway, so I (or someone I donate to) could write a personal message. And, if I use a small-ish portion of a full piece of colored cardstock, I can usually cut the remainder up into at least 2 card fronts, which I just keep filed in a bin for future cards. Hence, less bulk in my separate scrap storage. I am sure I'm not the only one who does this, but it doesn't seem to get mentioned or demonstrated very often, so I always try to suggest it.
