The .458 socom has nothing on the .50 Beowulf. I own both, as well as a .408 CheyTac M200 Intervention and a Barrett M107A1 in .50 BMG. Every unbiased head to head test I have conducted or seen puts the .50 Beo ahead of the .458 in energy, velocity, reliability, price per round and accuracy - everything that matters. Any caliber specific short to mid range prey, under 1,000 feet, is owned by the Beowulf. The 335 gr rounds, HP or FMJ, are bad a**, but are useless when compared to the full brass 385 gr HP's, or with the full brass 350 gr Spitzer HP rounds. Those rounds make almost any other citizen legal munition seem like it was made by Holly Hobby. The 385 gr HP is overkill, even for felling a prize Polar bear, Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Kodiak Grizzly... but it is nice to know that if a full-bull Rhino ever crashed through my front door, I could turn it to jelly with one shot. If you shoot anything with the .50 Beo 385 gr HP round and it still lives, operates or moves... then it is not from this planet. And there is still the 400 gr Hawk Flat Tips used by Marines at barricades to render any size engine useless with one shot. One 400 gr Beowulf round could kill 20+ soldiers in body armour if they were all lined up straight. Whether you factor in bang for the buck or not, the .50 Beowulf with the good ammo is the deadliest and most rewarding weapon in its class that I have ever seen, bar none.

I hate to tell you but I've gotten 2 hogs with one mind you yes was small the other being a 245+ pound bore and it dropped both instantly i understand shot placement plays a big roll seeing how I disconnected the heart on both but im very very surprised that the 50 beowulf did not put it down

350 grain XTP. I like these bullets. A shoulder shot typically drops them right where they are shot. I was about 2 inches back from the shoulder on the shot in the video and the bullet went straight through without expanding. Entrance and exit wounds were the same size. It didn't run far, but a shoulder shot typically results in no tracking when you are using a .50. I love this gun!

Okay, as far as I can tell, that .50 went right through....am I right? Definitely soft tissue, and I was surprised to see the hog was able to run off. Fairly certain it didn't get very far. Well then...I'm building a .50!

Looks like he went for a neck shot. hit too high on the neck, and it goes through muscle. Little lower it breaks their neck. Little lower its more muscle but thicker, so breaks their neck. Look up loan star boars. Shot placement. 5 yr old vid too

They're about the same. 50 beowulf would probably do better for hunting bears due to being able to use a higher grain bullet.

I agree, it's amazing. I had a huge feral dog show up at my farm once. It killed my dog and as I went out it came after me. I hit it with 12 gauge 00 buck at point blank range. It went down then half a minute later it jumped up and came after me again like nothing happened. I had to hit it again. When I went back to the original spot the things fucking liver was laying on the ground there. I blew it's liver out and it still got up and back in action. Unbelievable. I took that as a lesson. Just because somebody is dead doesn't mean they can't still kill you. If that dog had been a criminal with a gun I might not be here today. And thanks for your service my friend.

I'm sorry but I'm looking for a round that will drop a hog FLAT. .458 socom from what I've seen does more damage than a beowulf. 30-06 to .300 win mag is probably better. Not to mention a .470 to .600 nitro express. As you can see in this video after the hog is shot it runs. Not enough power to knock it down

I own several of those that you mention. A soft tissue shot on a hog with a .458 Socom, 30-06 and .300 win mag will result in running. As stated in my original post it ran 50 yards and the blood trail looked like a garden hose. Your are entitled to your opinions, but you are not well educated here. I have dropped plenty flat with my .17hmr right to the temple. Shot placement is more critical than the caliber. If the round would have hit a rib the hog would have dropped from the transfer of energy. You sound smarter than most so I probably don't need to explain this though. Cory Donaldson haha. You were kidding about a .338 lapua right... I hope. Long range 1,600 rated range and recorded military target hits past 2,600 yards. With almost 5,000lbs of force....yep, the .338 lapua wins as in a tank versus a bottle rocket in use and capability, really bad hunting rifle comparison. .338 is super expensive, way overkill and meant for such bigger and longer range shots. .50 Beowulf and .338 lapua are not comparible at all. One is long range precision weapon (.338) other is a 150-250yd max big bore hunting rifle .50 Beowulf). I can think of 20 other cartridges to hunt hog with, .338 lapua is and will never be one of them, of you actually shoot hogs consistently with a .338 you are crazy rich or not sure what you are doing. I would probably try .50 Beowulf before you overrate it, I love it. Shot placement, shot placement with any hunt is first and foremost
