Large Tennessee Installation - Civil War Rock Wall

In this week's video, we install a large tree+shrub screening in Tennessee. It took us 4 days of work with lots of cuttings. Below is a breakdown on the total footages.
1800 qty- 2' Silky Willow Cuttings
600 qty- 2' Hybrid Willow Cuttings
11 Rolls of 6'x500' Ground Fabric
10 Boxes of 2''x8'' Ground Staples

You just intrigued me with this setup. What's the reasoning between the gap between the matting rows? I am doing mine this spring and may opt to put that 5' gap for my mower and then create that extra room for roots and the canopy. I just want to make sure my screen is nice and thick

Hi George, two major reasons that the customer wanted the gap in-between the two rows. 1)Allowed them to mow long each side to suppress the surrounding grasses and allow maximum sunlight. 2)More space for the trees and shrubs to grow their root systems. We have found that a gap between the two rows will allow the trees/shrubs to reach taller heights compared to tighter spacings. Thanks for watching!-Seth

Are you ever concerned the black fabric will absorb too much heat and scorch the trees, especially in Southern climates?

Hi Jason, we have had customer feedback from southern states that have found great success from using the black x-cell woven fabric. It won't deteriorate quickly like other products in full sunlight areas. We recommend creating a 3''x3'' X-mark in the fabric when planting cuttings. This will allow enough room for the cutting to grow properly and let the ground breathe beneath the fabric. You don't want to create too small of a pilot hole in the fabric otherwise the fabric will waft, in the wind, on the cuttings and kill them! Thanks for watching!-Seth
