I'm zone 7a as well. I have a definite way to kill those squash bugs. I've been at total war with them this yr. Get a gallon sprayer, mix about 1/4 cup of Dawn dish soap to 1 gallon and spray the ground. The bugs will seek higher ground, and will be easy Pickens. Nail em with that spray and they will be dead in 10 second. Go for it. We also grew Moon and Stars, and have 100 meat chickens coming in Sept.
@bluebirdhomestead

Awesome! Great tip! I will try the dawn dish soap, I used dish soap before earlier in the year. It worked pretty well on the aphids attacking my roses. The neem oil did seem to kill them all on contact. I came back and did a second spraying last night. Congratulations on your meat birds! What breed did you order? We are loving having a huge freezer full of chicken. They taste so much better than any chicken I have tried before too!

Beautiful harvest! The Moon and Stars watermelon gets sweeter if you leave them on a bit longer. Usually about a week after the tendril turns brown you can roll the watermelon over and the field spot will be more of a creamy yellow that's when it's ready. @@bluebirdhomestead Some varieties are also more resistant to splitting and in my experience the spotty melons are good "southern" melons. Which in my mind means they're less likely to split, lol. We get a ton of rain so I also try to plant varieties that are HOPEFULLY less likely to split. 😆🍉💕

When I came across your video, I knew immediately that you are my sister in Christ. The vibe you showed and how much love you poured out in making this video and the yummy meals really can tell it. Yes we should give God praises due to Him alone. Every creature He made gives him glory everyday in their own little way. Amen.

Wow, that it one of the nicest compliments anyone could give me. Thank you so much! Yes I do love Jesus! The garden is a testimony of how awesome our God really is, it constantly blows my mind with how a little seed can produce an entire plant. Not to mention food and the beautiful flowers He created! 💚💚💚

The white cucumbers are a variety called dragons egg cucumber. I think they taste pretty much the same as any other cucumber haha. Like most cucumbers they are better on the slightly smaller side. They get a bit watered down as they get really big. I like their taste at baseball size not softball haha. They are fun to grow though and very prolific 😊

Hey Cara, your harvest was absolutely beautiful and when you ate that cherry tomatoes your facial expression was priceless. 😇 Oh no, I am sorry about the two watermelon you lossed. Yes try cardboard it's been working great for my hand held watermelons. Oh no squash bug. U were so clam!! How do u do that! I act like a total coca puffs when I see them. By the way. Any advice on what u use for your squash plants? I may need to do more, I have a couple on my new plant.. Squash in the bugs. using a soapy water solution, pepper spray, with neem oil. Any other options. Dose the neem oil kill the squash bug? Thanks for sharing again such a loving harvest.
@bluebirdhomestead
@bluebirdhomestead Жыл бұрын
Hey!! Squash bugs always seem to get the best of my plants eventually 🙈 The neem oil does kill them on contact, but it can damage your plants leaves. It’s best to spray the neem oil in the evening or dark, because it can cause sunburn. I normally just succession sow them. Hopefully yours survive! 😬😬 Haha yeah I was really excited about those cherry tomatoes 😜

What a great harvest, you grow some interesting veg. I've added the dragon egg cucumber to my list for next year. Those squash bugs look devastating, I did not know about them so have looked them up and we can also get them in the UK. My zucchini are in tubs so I'm going to stake them, then the arms will be in the air do you think this will help?

I have never tried staking zucchinis, you will have to let me know how that goes for you this year! The squash bugs would probably still attack them regardless around here unfortunately.
