Things to consider: 1.) hasbro made record profits, so this price increase is a cop out for inflation, that has already hit us like a truck in every other aspect of our lives. 2.) they already increased prices earlier this year and not even 6 months later are doing it again, even after quality has been so poor. 3.) they print too many sets and now with 11% increases, a standard draft box will now be $120-$130 which will then push set boxes to $140-$150….almost collector booster price and then we all know those will hit $250-$300 for 12 damn packs of cards. 4.) theres truly no need to buy the new product when theres over 10k cards in mtg card pool at this point; let them lose money and learn from their poor actions and support your lgs for singles.

I have 6 1” binders full of mythic, rare, and uncommon cards for each color, and also a binder for each of the multicolor cards. The number of sets they are continually releasing means that I seldom get a chance to make use of all of the new cards I have. I love playing the game but life gets in the way with work and family. I’m sure I am going to still buy but I don’t have to constantly buy 3 boxes of cards from every new set. $20 more per box won’t break the bank. The main thing is making sure priorities are in order. Play the game and enjoy it with your gathering of friends. That’s what I’ve always liked about Magic.

The question is whether an increased base cost to buy in will result in higher average prices for new cards. They have been pushing power levels and show no signs of pulling back. If the price hikes correlate to lower sales, we should see that reflected in ceiling prices for chase singles.

Just most people shop on TCG player and other similar major storefronts like Card Kingdom due to the less risk and assumed better quality control (which is often true), so those are the prices Rudy and many other channels give. From what I get from this video is that we need Rudy to become 10-20% of Wizards' sales so that we can try to influence their decisions from being a terrible company! I appreciate Rudy's advice. One thing that really made me think and realize that I was a Timmy for a long time was when I would see something crashing and I'd always tell myself that it was worthless to buy that stuff. NOW I look at something that's bottoming out and look at the risk vs reward and if there's a minimal risk but potential for a big reward I've rewired myself to take those risks. Sometimes they stay flat or dip lower but sometimes they rebound! Thanks Rudy!

I would not mind the increase if availability would improve. As a LGS owner, it appears that the price increase has already been factored in by some distributors already.
@razaelsrevenge93142 жыл бұрын
Same boat here. Especially me being a new LGS, allocation is something I have to deal with on top of availability in general. This price increase is going to make making ends meet a little harder on my end now. I'm not a WPN LGS either so I don't even get the price discounts for certain things at launch, or even access to Wizard's full catalog of stuff.
@thatepicwizardguy2 жыл бұрын
not only availability but their general quality better be consistently high if they're gonna raise the prices like this. regardless, I worry for LGS owners like you when this stuff happens... it makes a lot of people heavily lean towards wanting to buy singles over packs and boxes because it's just ultimately way more affordable on average. I'm expecting sometime on the back of this price hike move for a lot of stores to take a hit and even for a lot of people to quit magic altogether honestly, but we'll see. wishing for the best for everybody, but the greed from wotc is really somethin else these days.
@ClearanceCollector2 жыл бұрын

@UC7juYhx85Q_4uSzpYfpB7Cg I've applied 3 times and been rejected. They don't like my floors(it's old tile floors and they're scratched up. they say my floors look dusty), they keep telling me my shop looks like it's under construction(which it's not.) and that my LGS doesn't "look like an LGS".....finally they told me that if I didn't like their decision I could just move my shop to a "better location" or something like that. I think it's something personal with them looking up my personal social media stuff and they don't like me and my views. Because there's 1 WPN shop about 7 miles down the road from me which is wayyy smaller, floors are terrible, only 1 bathroom, and doesn't have proper heating/AC but they got WPN years ago. When I brought that up....that's when they told me to move buildings.

Premise this by saying I live in Canada. I can tell you cleanly that during the pandemic I started buying up distribution mtg stock and eating up as much as I physically could every set release. I went from buying a single inner in 2019. To buying multiple master cases every release. The availability is there for increase. The problem is when you try and buy less than a case of product and I'm over here trying to eat as much as I can (and there are many me's) you get bumped for a customer like me. I know because I had a very frank conversation with distribution at the beginning . If you are not bullish with ordering mtg expect your quantities to slowly diminish in 2022 and beyond

Standard Set Draft Booster: $5.00 Modern Specialty Set Booster: $20.00 ^----- Same printing costs ..... How can anyone not expect a "cost" increase since we were dumb enough to fall for this when it happened 5 years ago. As soon as that pricing model was accepted I knew the base cost to play was going to go up. I'm just surprised it took this long. Having Hasbro, or any company where they sacrifice all for the bottom line, in control of magic is a bad thing as a player. As a former collector of 1 of every card it became literally impossible to keep up due to cost($), access(the list and a billion card variants), and shear volume of products.

Gotta love the Rudy TED talks. The important thing is to do what's best for you, not what everybody else is doing or what you see people do in this or that channel. And enjoy what you do. Sometimes, that might not involve buying collectible card games. I believe Rudy does see his massive collection of expensive cardboard and enjoys it for more than just the value. I don't collect vintage magic cards (have a family, mortgage, other interests, etc.). I do enjoy playing Magic and throw some money at it every year. I do collect other things, and regardless of value, I enjoy perusing these items and remembering how I came across them. For me, it's one of the main reasons for collecting. So once again, do what's best for you. If you're into investing, make sure you enjoy it, rather than buying things senselessly because they might go up in price. If you don't have money to invest in MTG, but still love the game, then buy what you can afford and have fun with it. Grab that one shock land that you pulled from a random Dragon's Maze booster pack and instead of going to look at its value, remember how you felt when you pulled that card that went straight into your weird homebrew modern deck, and how you smile every time you draw it while playing. And if you don't enjoy CCGs, whether it is collecting them or playing them, and you're only here for the Taco Bell jokes, then great. You're doing what's best for you.

I am one of those that is not a Patron and haven't played or bought MtG since 2000. These videos are still an interesting window into a number of different topics that most would not consider to be related. From a more personal perspective many of the videos give me more knowledge about the MtG market. So when It comes time for me to retire in another 3-5 years I have a better idea of how to handle the 4-5 thousand cards I have from the 1990's, to help support that retirement.

What set has the most nostalgic value. Revised. And nostalgia sells. And I subscribed, because your “on point” about the government and federal reserve.

Watching your videos back in early 2020 helped me see where the market for MTG was going and make the decision to leave it from an investing standpoint. Since then I've been in real estate full time and have not looked back. Thank you!

I studied Economics at uni and have worked in finance for 10 years and can confirm I’ve learnt far more about markets from this basement dweller who needs a haircut and eats 8 tacos a day. Thanks, I appreciate the great content!

I quit magic three years ago and was coming back but the lgs me and friends stop by introduced us to flesh and blood. Got to say it's a very fun game. I know right now it's going though a hard time but you can get into cheap right now and unlike mtg it seems the company care for it's players and is trying to fix their game.
