I think the Ukrainian guy talking about how they could make better weapons was wording his argument poorly, but I think it is the case that a lot of weapons that are being supplied to Ukraine are old and were not developed with the specific conditions of this war in mind. Weapons developed now, specifically for the conditions of this war, absolutely can be better suited to the task than older weapons. As far as I can tell, Ukraine has indeed developed some weapons that are proving very effective in the specific conditions of this war, and I can imagine it might well be possible for them to do this even better, and on a greater scale, with additional western funding for it. That isn't to say that they are better than people in the US or UK, the UK providing their prototype laser anti-drone system is an example of a highly relevant cutting edge weapon being supplied to Ukraine, but the people in Ukraine are highly motivated to develop weapons that meet their specific needs, more so than weapons companies in the US and UK right now. I think his point, albeit poorly worded, was that with more funding, they can ramp up their production of the weapons they have developed themselves that are specifically designed for the exact conditions of the war they are fighting.

The Russian Tanker might be in International waters but in my view the Germans with backing from other countries should board and inspect it and tow it to a secure area where it should be impounded to prevent an ecological disaster. The owners will need to pay salvage costs to the Germans for doing so, which would be a lot of money that can be used to fund Ukraine.

I think 'throwing away' is not meant to offend but instead he means there is not enough ammunition to always shoot a second time or to have plenty available for practice. That is how I interpret his use of words. In UK we might use similar terminology to refer to ammunition not actually used in action. When something is in short supply one cannot afford to just 'throw it away'. Everyone realises all the allies are giving support in a multitude of ways.

I think Ukraine is already demonstrating their ability to innovate weapons the big three have not even considered until now. They certainly have the potential to make 'better' weapons in a well funded future peaceful world and I suspect their best designers will be in great demand. Humility? They show enormous gratitude consistently but their capacity to take munitions to a whole new level in many cases perhaps requires the allies to recognise their own limitations?

Thanks. Two remarks, 1) there are no oil silos, these things are called oil "storage tanks"! Some history, in the first world war people starting to call fightings vehicles tanks because they looked like storage tanks. 2) Secondly the refining capacity of a petrochemical site in barrels per day doesn't indicated it's importance. The refining part (crude distiller) is only a part of the facility. Most processing units in that site are making chemical products like pvc, polyethylene, solvents, rubber, lube oil or crack the heavy components from the distillers into more gasoline. These units use a feed from the crude distillers and take most space in the petrochemical site.
