Sorry to say folks, but the directionality of vocal frequencies put Jessica in a vocal "dead zone"... Monitors facing artists and Mains blasting past the smartphone mic. Robert's standing steel was direct from a stage amp whereas the other instruments were mic'd or direct to the board and pushed out the mains. And no, I wasn't the soundman on this gig but I've learned a lot about sound over the years. And not trying to talk down to anyone but there are trade offs when recording from front and centre or back behind the board. Rock on, great video all the same!

I'll defend the soundman and guess that the system has no front fill speakers (in bigger places, several are usually set along the edge of the stage), so we get a face full of stage sound, which isn't too much of a hardship with these musicians, but miss the vocals.

I don't think that's what happened at all. The person recording this with a phone is literally standing directly underneath Megan. From that location her phone mic is probably picking up mostly Megan's monitor which is probably about 6 inches away from them. There's no way from that location to get a balanced sound recording.

Morgan Gayle I was right up at front so yes, vocals were hard to hear on video. There are other videos from this show that are from farther away so you can hear vocals better. Be sure to search for them. It was an awesome song and show. 🤘🏻
