I have been listening to this cover for years and whenever someone brings up “The Band” or “Ophelia” I play this version and people are blown away! Even more shocked when they see that the guy singing is super young and has the soulful voice of a 45 year old that has had a hard life :)

the fact that this only has 24k says everything about people nowadays.This deserves millions of views but nobody appreciates good music and talent anymore.

WRITTEN BY ROBBIE ROBERTSON!!!!!!!!!!!!! Levon was a genius, but this is Robbie's masterpiece!!!!!
@danieljulian46767 жыл бұрын
Let me try to add some levity (no pun intended) to what has become a tiresome ongoing debate with regard to the tunes given us by The Band. "Ophelia" is timeless, but here's an example from the 1920s - 1930s: Even though he gets the credit, nobody cares that Jimmy Cox wrote "Nobody Loves You When You're Down and Out", but when Louis Armstrong or Sidney Bechet performed it on trumpet, that's what made it live, and Jimmy Cox is still dead. Yes, we know that Cole Porter and Irving Berlin wrote plenty of songs we love, and they're remembered for that. Robertson wrote a gem of a song that will someday be in the same class as all those other classics. Maybe it already is, but few of the songs he wrote for the Band are this good, and it was the musical gifts of the other 4 that made them shine, and Robertson may find an ending more like Jimmy Cox's than like Irving Berlin's. A lot of people are attached to Levon Helm's soulfulness and joy in musicianship; he was a vocalist who's attained the stature of a lot of the great vocalists of the past, and he could play the drums like few others, singing at the same time. It's all good. That said, Root Soul Project have given us yet another marvelous interpretation of a great, great song.

Great work.....but that piezo quack is ever present........ might want to run a pre amp or mic ur guitars.....great job tho I dont mean to piss on ur heads....I do hate the sound of most acoustics plugged in It's a contradiction in terms....and just dont sound right on quality instruments like urs

Thank you for your contribution. It's always good to know the fitness aspects and there's only so many ways to project over a crowded bar. I'm sure it was likely my recording ability that compromised the sound. In person the sound fullness was quit captivating.

I recorded it live in a bar called Duck and Dive ... you can hear the people in the background. Randy is honestly just that good. It's an experience every time I see him live which is why I did the video for him. I believed in him when I was younger and now to see how far he's taken it is a reward in itself.

@@TomSappPhotographer28412 why no mention of Justin Johnson ? well done . not an easy one to cover , especially with a harp for a band. gonna check him out. peace.
