Me and the family decided to visit LarkSpur Train Shop again and I was excited to see what they had. As it turned out they had several new pieces including two gorgeous steam locomotives and some really interesting buildings. I ended up buying some stuff including an entire circus scene, a Hershey box car and some cork road bed. All great additions to the layout in my books.

Wonderful memories with this Lark spur visit! I live in Montreal's West Island but visited Lark Spur many many times when visiting family in Merrickville. They have passed on now, and we have not been in several years. In fact my 'dive' into DCC began there back in 2003, purchasing about 20 decoders to convert non-DCC locs... Great memories.-CL

Hello from Germany. My English is so bad, so I use a free program - I hope you can read in English what I mean in German! ;-) In minute 6:45 you can see a fall platform that was used to supply locomotives with coal. Of course, these crash platforms could only be erected where the topography allowed it. In addition, this type of coaling is personnel and material-intensive and originated from the early days of steam locomotive coaling. The coal wagons, which were delivered to the coaling level, had to be unloaded by hand, shoveled into the hunt and then either unloaded by crane over the coal box of the locomotives or poured directly into the tenders using the chutes. The model is manufactured by Pola No. 671 for H0 gauge and No. 216 for N gauge.

Send in the clowns... Harrison, I believe your viewers are most likely steaming with anticipation about the mystery purchase. In addition to that, I hope you didn't pass on the Atlas BNSF. As for the circus, you're going to have to add another layout branching off the Mainline as a circus back in the day was typically held in a field outside of town. And you may want to add a small carnival including a ferris wheel into the mix. Thanks for sharing. 👍 👍 👍

Now you need what we call the lock and key to go with your show. The key to open a show has always been the merry go round. The lock is the Ferris wheel. The lock closes the show. It's the first lights to shut off. The merry go round hits its music and spins to open the day. Have you ever looked at the mechanical carnival models? They are amazing! I would love to build my own. I've never seen a model of the gravitron or starship 2000. Both same just starship is bigger. Trailer mounted a version of what most pilots and astronauts have to endure to become what they are? 65 mph at 3 1/2 g's of force. I was the man in the center at 1 time in my life. Man did i put on a show in there! Floating in the air walking the walls. Not a life choice. Just helping him get started. Teaching new people how to set the rides up. Maintenance the machines and tearing them down and packing them up. Was my younger years. Didn't really have a direction a goal or even a future. I liked building machines and cars trucks. The best was I got to see more of the world and meet the people. Seen places i couldn't afford to go. Places most can't dream about going cuz they can't afford to bearly go to carnival let alone go to an island inside the 🇺🇸. Lucky i met someone who owned a carnival.

Yes! Those are massive HO scale 86ft Autoparts Boxcars. Quite cool pieces of rollingstock. They were able to become so long due to the light weight of the autoparts being shipped. Some are being replaced by just containers I believe. But those boxcars are quite common between Detroit and Kansas City. Atleast thats the only line Ive seen them on.

Nice tour of the hobby shop SMT! Those 86' auto parts boxcars are most likely Walthers products judging by the coupler setup. Athearn also made these cars back in the blue box days, however while the car itself is quite good the coupler setup had quite a bit of binding as they were a piece that shared the mounting holes with the truck. Cool circus module too! Take care!

Coal dock bit seems to be part of the Walthers steel mill set and the " converted train station " looks to be the old Atlas Howard Johnson restaurant kit. Not surprised you didn't know what it was as HoJo was well on it's way to oblivion when I was your age or younger ( for reference I just turned 59 last month) and is essentially extinct. Also further confirmation of the boxcars as 86 foot auto parts cars. They used to be common as dirt passing through my home town here in Chicago's northwest suburbs heading back and forth from the GM plant up in Janesville WI until the plant shutdown 10 12 years ago.
