The 'Crowes with Marc Ford were unquestionably their defining sound, but Lions album allows Rich to really shine with some monster guitar riffing and great songs - 'Inside Out' + 'Lickin' just for starters....not to mention 'Soul Singing' which I reckon is up-there with their best.

These guys in their heyday were as good as any live act you'd ever be lucky enough to see. I hate the brothers can never seem to get along for any length of time. The "love/hate" relationship between Rich and Chris has produced some KILLER music, but it's also been tough on fans when they are on the outs (like now).

These guys on their WORST day were better than 99% of live acts around in the last 20 years or more.

This is probably obvious to anyone that's been around the Crowes a while but a friend of mine is a 1990 Crowes fan, I didn't get into the band until By Your Side, It's like there's a generation split and there are 2 types of Crowes fans, he doesn't go past the first 4 albums, I love all of it especially Lions and Warpaint but the older fans seem to disregard everything after 3 Snakes. If the band started in 99 they would still be legendary in my view. I went to see them 2 weeks ago in Dublin and my old Crowe friend even admitted afterwards that you've just got to enjoy the fact that they are still out there doing this better than most.

whats fucked up is that the Black Crowes live in 2001 were louder than Tool live in 2002

Tool have fibbonaci but crowes have soul. Tool may flirt with metal sound for their delivering, but crowes can sound heavier without a metal sound. Bottom line is, proper rock and roll s always gonna be louder. Period.

Soon after they called it quits, thankfully so. The magic was gone as was CR's voice. The forced akwardness was hard to watch.

This was one of the greatest periods of the Crowes IMO. Lions is such a good album, with only one song being kind of different. But that makes the album more diverse. This album is very similar to The Beatles’s White Album in the view of how diverse and honest their artistic expression was. Lions was a bold and brilliant move by The Black Crowes. I wish they would have continued this route. Who knows where they could have gone. Nevertheless, The Black Crowes are still my favorite band of all time and I love all their albums.
