Larry Bird is the first player to accomplish the 50-40-90 club, the only person in NBA history to be named Rookie of the Year, 3 point Champion three straight years, MVP three times straight (When competing against Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Dr. J, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy and many more), Finals MVP, All-Star MVP, Coach of the Year, and Executive of the Year. Also Hall Of Fame Head Coach Pat Riley once said " If I had to choose a player to make rh winning shot of a game. I would pick Michael Jordan, but if I had to pick a player to make a shot to save my life. I pick Larry Bird."

There was never a three point line at any level before Bird's rookie season. He had never shot a three point shot before 1979. So to answer your question, no they didn't add the three point line because of Bird. He learned to shoot threes as a pro. Which makes the fact that he was the first 50/40/90 shooter much more impressive.

Yes there was a three point line. It was first added in 1961 in the ABL. Picked up also by the newly founded ABA in 67. During the 1970s, the ABA used the three-point shot, along with the slam dunk, as a marketing tool to compete with the NBA. Larry and many others just had never played with it. The NBA after sometime, introduced it after purchasing the ABA and adding in their teams to the NBA. The Nuggets, Clippers, Nets, Spurs and Pacers. Think there was more, but teams moved around and names changed over the years and I'd have to look to be 100% accurate. But the 3 pointer was around for over 10 years before the NBA adopted it.

Bird was a fortune teller. He could predict the future. I remember a game I went to against the NY Knicks where he scored 44 points with 14 rebounds. In the next day's newspaper, some of the Knicks players said that Bird walked into their locker room before the game and told all of them and their coaches he was going to drop 42 on them in a blow out win. He was off by two points, but I'll give him a pass. LOL. 😂😂😂 He is definitely top 3 on my all time list.

Larry Bird was playing Horse with the NBA PLAYERS and giving them a chance to stop him. I was 16 years old when he entered the League but I already knew about him in Highschool and College and he heard all his life that he hasn't played anyone yet. But when he entered the League he was disappointed about what he was told by everyone. And he said by the 3rd Game of his career he was going to DOMINATE THE LEAGUE and he did it for 8 Years Straight... Great Reaction need more of Larry Bird Welcoming Rookies to the NBA was Brutal.

Lol. Have you reacted to Courtship of Rivals?! It's documentary.... it explains about Larry Bird and Magic Johnson .....how their rivalry saved the NBA! Most reactors break it down into either 3 or 4 parts.... Its a great 1 to watch and leads right into the 1992 Olympics....the year of the Dream Team! That team had 11 hall of famers on it! I don't think we'll ever see a team that had the impact that this team had!

@@Sunny-jz3dy Well to be fair here. The Bulls mainly played the Celtics as the number one seed in the first round as the 8th seed (last to make the playoffs). Meaning it was still the best of 5. Not saying Jordan may have won in best of 7, just that the Bulls limped in two of the three times they faced the Celtics in the playoffs. Their heyday was actually the battles with the Pistons, not Larry and the Celtics. The Bulls just weren't that good yet when they went against one of the best teams ever assembled. There was that reason the Bulls never stood a chance once they reached the Playoffs. Nobody was beating that Celtics team at all, let alone playoff time. The Pistons had to assemble a hockey team to get past the aging Celtics who kicked the crap out of them the year before. And I still say the Hawks/Celtics playoff games is some of the best basketball ever played. I would lean towards Larry's battles with Wilkins over any of those games Larry played against Jordan. The Bulls just weren't a team to make deep playoff runs until the late 80's. Wasn't very shocking that the Celtics beat the Bulls with or without Jordan back in those days.

Green talks a bunch a chit, too. Gets people swinging at him. How many times has he been tossed? Yeah, he's talking chit, and he's one of the best at doing so too. I get what you're saying, but it isn't because of any era. Green was born when Bird retired. He would have known little about much of Larry Bird's game. He's hearing these stories for the first time too. But make no mistake, Green talks mad chit during games, Tatum had big issues dealing with it in the finals. He finally got past trash talking effecting his game play. Guessing you didn't know this. Green is one of the best at trash talking, in any era.

Trust me, he's changing outcomes of games trash talking no different than Bird, Payton, Miller, Jordan or Barkley. There's always going to be trash talking. Just today, a few things cross the line now for fools in the audience. Because those in the stands start winging punches too. Just as they always have. It's basketball. Nothing but a few rules have changed. They trash talk and always have. Just as YOU do when you play your friends and neighbors. Gladiator's use to trash talk. The 3 pt.line was introduced Birds rookie year 1979. But I don't think they invented just for Bird....lol. Larry Bird was the very 1st player to use the 3 pointer as a weapon in the game. The 1st few years coaches discouraged players from trying to even attempt a 3 point shot! In Birds second year he threw a 3 pointer at the end of a game that won the game for them. His coach was pissed off because Bird attempted the 3 ...even though it won the game for them. So he cut Bird's play time in half their next game!

I was so lucky to be a teenager in the 1980s, I witnessed the whole Lakers /Celtics rivalry from the beginning. I was a big Lakers fan and Magic was my favorite player and I hated the Celtics with a passion. Nowadays I'm much older and look back on the rivalry with so much respect for both teams. It wasn't just Bird and Magic, those teams were filled with HOFers and rightfully so. Thanks to all those great athletes for a solid decade of greatness in the NBA . It's also nice to see young people , like yourself , watching these old highlights and enjoying them.

The 3-point line was invented in by the ABA in the 70s before the two leagues merged 1976. The NBA adopted it during Bird’s rookie season. Basically literally at no levels below the professional ranks, and even then ONLY in the ABA, it literally didn’t exist. There was no ability to practice the shot. Think about that when you see the man damn near averages 40% from 3, was the first player to ever register a 50/40/90 shooting split for a season, etc. man was a lethal sniper at 6’10”.

Jordan is the League's all-time leading scorer by average, was all-defensive first team 9 times and won a defensive player of the year. He also won 6 championships to Bird's 3 despite Bird having better teammates. Jordan was a much better scorer and a much, much better defender, and last I checked, scoring and defense are how you win games. Bird wasn't that far ahead in the other stats to make up for this. And I'd expect a 6'9" 225-pound player to rebound better than a 6'6" 215-pound player. If he didn't, I'd consider it a deficiency. Advanced stats Jordan's PER is 4 points higher than Bird's, 27.4 (highest in NBA history) to 23.4, and Jordan had 214 win-shares compared to Bird's 145. #1 Jordan #2 Bird.

@@JayLandon64 Well, if "scoring and defense are how you win games "(and not understanding winning basketball is playing as a TEAM, not an individual) then why is Bird's win percentage one of the highest while Jordan's is....top 50? Speaking of scoring, did Jordan ever have a 50/40/90 season? NOPE. And did the Bulls ever beat the Celtics in the playoffs during that time? Let's see, they met in the playoffs two years in a row at the height of Jordan's statistically best season ever and the Bulls got SWEPT three games to zero. And then the same thing happened AGAIN the next year. Two years in a row and the Bulls didn't win a single game against the Celtics when it mattered most. In one of those playoff games Jordan scored a record 63 points individually, but lost. That's a perfect microcosm of why Bird was better, because Bird understood how to lead a team to win games versus how to score points. I've said it before that if I wanted to sell tickets I'd pick Jordan, but if I wanted to win games I'd pick Bird. BTW, Statistically win-shares will favor a player with a long career and Jordan places FIFTH on the win-shares list behind Wilt, Kareem, Lebron and Karl Malone. All great players but I'd put none of them ahead of Bird or Jordan on the all time great list

@@nunyabusiness5075 50/40/90 is shooting, not scoring. Jordan averaged 30.1 points per game. Bird averaged 24.3. Bird created 36 points per game (pts and assists), Jordan 40.7. LOL, that's why Jordan won twice as many titles with less supporting talent, because Bird is better for winning and Jordan better for selling tickets? No, Jordan is decidedly better at both.

@@JayLandon64 And Bill Russell won 11 titles, damn near twice as many as Jordan. You really seem to be hung up on statistics so tell me if Jordan was so much better at everything why did Jordan's Bulls have a win percentage of exactly ZERO point ZERO in playoff games when Bird was in the game? Less supporting talent, or another way of putting it, Jordan DIDN'T understand how to make the rest of his team better the way Bird did. It's a TEAM sport, and I'll pick the guy who knows how to get wins (73.6 percent career) rather than the guy who can score points but can't be a TEAM player to get the win. BTW Jordan's career win percentage is 65.9 percent, Bird's is 73.6 percent (2nd all time). If I'm starting a team and want to win games it's Larry Bird over MJ all day every day.

Bird probably has fine thin (not to be confused with thinning hair or baldness but the thickness of each individual strand) hair. That type of hair is great for “FEATHERING” hair styles. Feathering hairstyles was predominately popular in the 1970’s. Farrah Fawcett is iconically known for supporting that hair style. So, you might not be wrong about Bird’s hair. It fits with that style and era.
