When Legend was growing up. He played against mostly black guys on the bball courts. I will say, go down the Bird rabbit hole. You won't be disappointed.

Growing up, a young Larry Bird used to play hoops with a group of older Black guys who worked at a local restaurant. That’s where Larry honed his skills and developed his swag as a trash talker.

Enjoyed your reaction 😊 For me Larry Bird's trash talking, either broke a player down, or forced an opponent to be a better player, & it was the strength of the player, which way they were affected.......that was just a part of who Bird was 😊

His left-handed game, he scored 27 points left-handed in 3 quarters, but finished the game with 47 points total. I can't think of another player who could even get close to accomplishing that!
@Finnssssss
@Finnssssss 9 ай бұрын
This is actually incorrect because Walton says 27 in the videos. It was actually only 22 points with his left, 10 field goals and 2/3 lefthanded free throws. It was 47 and a triple double for the entire game though.

Larry Bird had the demeanor of someone who was a master of his craft. Race had nothing to do with it. He just knew he was better.

I grew up Watching Larry Bird and was 16 when he entered the League. All of Larry Bird life he was told by everyone that he hasn't played anyone yet. In Highschool and College he heard the same thing. Then he came into the NBA League and he said by the 3rd Game, he was going to DOMINATE THE LEAGUE and then he did it for 8 Years Straight. And I never knew he was talking Trash because I couldn't hear it and it wasn't visible on the TV. And I was Shocked when I found out that he was telling the opponent what he was going to do and then he does it. He was trying to challenge himself. G.O.A.T. Larry Joe Bird. Watch Larry Bird Welcoming Rookies to the NBA was Brutal.

Great content bruh. There are a lot more out there, but here is one. This was told by John Stockton. Boston was playing in Uthat, and LB stood by the Jazz bench and casually says, "I feel like 43." Not only did he have 43, but he had it after 3 quarters, also 1 steal away from a quadruple double. KC Jones went to Larry in the 4th and asked if he wanted to go back i for his 10th steal. LB said no. He already did enough damage. They won by 20+. LB never chased numbers.... he was about the win.

He also injured his fingers around the time he played the NCAA championship game. Spent hours learning how to shoot with his finger being messed up. You can see it when he shoots a jump shot. The finger on his shooting hand is still bent.

Best part of the 3 point contest story is what happened the 4th year when Larry wasn't there due to injury. Craig Hodges of the Bulls who lost to Bird for 3 year straight finishing 2nd twice, won it in 89. When asked after if he only won due to Larry's absence, he said "Larry knows where to find me." When Bird was told what Hodges said, he responded "Yeah I know where, at the end of the Bulls bench." Lol savage!

There are a couple of videos about Bird's injuries. The 5 times Bird was injured but refused to quit. The other is 4 times he was hurt and showed how tough he was. Don't know the titles word for word but they're easy to find. They are mind blowing too. I can't wait to see you react to the highlights that show his full court passes. He's a basketball quarterback. Each one lands right in his teammates hands. Just amazing.

I have watched the NBA, big fan, since the 1970s up until recent years, I had grown sick & tired of modern NBA play. The 1980s was an incredible time to be a fan and Larry Bird was the absolute best, of all time IMO, Jordan a close 2nd. Bird was a million-in-one player, nobody like him since. (MJ has stated that he learned about head games and the art of winning from Bird). His "trash talking" wasn't vulgar or insulting, it was a device to get into his opponent's heads and demoralize them, plus a way to make the game more interesting to him. Plus he was an extreme Alpha Male, he was the leader. Back in the day (not sure if they still do it), rookies were hazed, they had to carry the veteran's bags, get their meals at practice, basically be their slaves for a season. Not Bird- he mad eit clear from Day 1 he was doing none of this stuff, and never did, the other players knew he was the shit. In addition to the video clips, there are so many other Bird Trash Talk stories. He used to say to Jordan when MJ tried to guard him "Hey look! We got a little one here trying to guard me!" Or when he and the great Dr. J got into that famous fight, it was because he was muttering to Erving up and down the court "26, 3" and 38, 6"- a tally of how many points they each scored so far (Bird had 42 points and Dr. J had only 6 before both were ejected), and one of the refs in that game stated that Irving eventually lost his cool. Or the time when Isiah Thomas was running out to guard Bird at the 3 point line, he waited until Isiah reached him, buried the three and told him "too late". Or when Bird told the Dallas Mavericks bench exactly the inbound pass play; who was going to get it, the pass to him in the corner, and then the shot. And the Mavericks, knowing this, could not stop him. Like I said; there will never be another Bird, not in these times.

Thanks for sharing your reaction to Larry. As a young man in New England, I got to watch Larry when he showed up in Boston. In real time, I didn't know that he was talking trash. I was just watching Larry making his teammates better. He dove for loose balls. He made insane shots with 2 defenders on him while they are holding his jersey and a hand in his face. Now all of these stories are coming out about how he told the other players what he was going to do. Say what?

As a non B Ball fan .. I'm football or baseball pretty much.. but do remember being a little girl and my Daddy hating Larry Bird because he was all about Philly teams.. so I was raised on Dr. J, Moses, Barkley,.. but I've been watching some videos for the last 3 weeks or so about Larry.. Dang.. this man could play.. Makes me want to see if in today's bball there's anyone close.. I will watch if that's the case. The thing that really blows my mind... my Daddy in that era was a truly racist man.. My Daddy was white.. I'm blown away that he hated Larry.. I would have thought he would be his biggest supporter. Live and learn.. I guess Dad was more a Philadelphia fan than a racist. Glad to say that in my Dad's later years he changed and became accepting of everyone.
