I'd forgotten how great Larry's early work is. Like many players, I spent a lot of hours on this one, without getting it. I see your comment that it took decades. Thanks for not giving up on it. You are one fine player.

Wow. Awesome. Really fabulous. I could play this pretty well about 30 years ago and had great fun doing so!!!, although I did struggle with the last few runs. I haven't heard the song in many years but was reminded of it tonight so I listened to it then checked youtube to see if anyone else was playing. It was my most favorite track when I played regularly, and I spent many hours/days/weeks/months learning it lol. To hear it played like that brings back wonderful memories of the fun I had myself learning it and playing it. It's really wonderful to see someone playing it so accurately and better than I did. Thank you soooo much.

Man, that is awesome!!! I've been listening to this song for over 25 yrs. I have been given hope from your video, that, yes it is possible to play along with this masterpiece...but again, it took another masterful player to show me how. Going on 2 years now, and I still can not follow it like you do. If I ever accomplish this....I'll put my video up next to yours. Then ,only then will I be able to say, " I can play the guitar. Thank you for your inspiration. Chris.

Man, I've been listening to this song/"cassette" until someone swiped it from me in 1991.Didn't stop me one bit. Every chance I got to record it for myself, I would. Can't play it all the way through like you do. You are the first one to show me, and the world how to play this. I just went to a show in Seattle that Mr. Carlton played at "the jazz alley". I and another fellow guitarist, we shouted out for Mr.Carlton to play "point it up"... He acknowledged us by asking "how many guitarist in the crowd?" Then told us all the history behind the song, and said " I'm not going to play that fast song, I'm too old now, it might hurt me". The whole building laughed, and he did NOT play it. Bummer. Still good show. So you're the first. How long did it take you to learn it like you do in this clip?

Thanks for the compliment. The guitar lines are basically composed of G dorian with some chromatic passing notes. It may get easier to play if you see three notes per string with one or two pickings, not full-picking.

The guitar is Roland G-808. This is actually a guitar-synthesizer but I used it as a normal guitar because it sounds with rich resonance because of the through-neck. It's been a while since I recorded it. At that time, I used Mesa Boogie amp simulator in PODxt.
