Not to get conspiratorial or whatever but the secular/liberal view of religion very much resembles the Masonic view of it, in my estimation. The Freemasonic Lodge allows anyone of any creed, faith, religion into the lodge (as long as they affirm belief in something that can be deemed a Grand Architecht), because ultimately, the Masonic initiation will replace the essence of the initiate's religion with the essence of freemasonry, while allowing the "form" of the initiate's religion to remain so they can't protest too much. It's very subtle but it mirrors liberalism uncannily.

25:15 liberalism is fine with the form of religion, as long as liberalism remains the essence of it. "You want to play dress-up, believe in ghosts and chant mantras, be my guest, as long as you affirm the necessity of equality, liberty, and progress," says liberalism. And there's nothing subversive about an essenceless Christianity since there's nothing there that can subvert. Freedom of religion is freedom to be liberal in different ways.

Thus the current popular fad making a false dichotomy "I'm spiritual, not religious."
