You think he is bad now you should have seen him back in the 70's. No one and I mean no one wanted to come behind him in concert. He would flat turn a concert out. I saw Chic get literally booed off stage after they were the headliner and came on after Graham had literally ripped the floor up.

I also witnessed Graham several times back in the day. Like you said , NOBODY wanted to follow him. I saw folks walk out on the Ohio Players, The Isley Bros, and he made the Temptations seriously sweat ! It was so severe that some places wouldn't even put his name on the marque ! I saw them in some places where in my personal opinion , the sound company would purposely mess with the sound system. The Cow Palace comes to mind when there was a double bill with Tower of Power. Graham Central Station... What a dynamic group !!!

Detroit, 1978. We were there when the trucks got to Masonic Temple. The crew let us help unload the gear from the truck; in return we got to see the concert for free. Booker T & The MGs didn't show up to open. GCS played from 7:30 til midnight. Larry did "Earthquake" like Hendrix on bass. One of the best concerts I've ever seen.

After that year and year after year at Cap Center the legendary shows opening for Sly Stone - No Show night.. GCS & TOP or GCS Headliners -- spot on showmanship, power, funky and FUN. The original band give or take the changes at drummer for those magic albums 73~78 - kicked ass. KZbin if you could only shows some of the those times.. So glad we still have Mr. Graham. RIP Robert Butch Sam RIP Willie Wild Sparks RIP Gaylord Flash Birch RIP David 'Dynamite' Vega Give me Patrice Chocolate Banks over my biscuits any day. Play on Hershall "Happiness" Kennedy

Mark King singer & bassist with UK rock, pop, funk, jazz fusion group Level 42 (their prime 1980s-early 90's imho ) credits Larry Graham with inventing the hand slapping bass playing technique . The story is that Graham invented it when sly & family stone were just forming . They had no drummer so Larry invented it and employed it to give the early band a percussive sound when they were rehearsing, playing small club gigs and yet to record . Mark King said the same thing when Level 42 was just starting and had no drummer ... It was long ago, can't remember the records, but i do remember Larry Graham making some beautiful adult genre solo love songs in his natural, deep, clear bass - baritone voice . It was refreshing because so many singers were singing so high it got irritating from the late 60s thru the 1980s . Graham"s solo hit love songs remind me of American Songbook days: Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Hartman , and the rest
