His timing was spot-on. A rare comic who wasn't vulgar, never swore and could make an audience laugh just from his facial expressions.

No, instead like the Two Ronnies used innuendos which were just as crude and crass - "Everhard", "Sterilise Stan", "trying to force his yoghurt through my letterbox" - "Peekaboo Pete" - "I am trying to raise something for the vicar". "Stage hands, their hands are everywhere". "Slack Alice". "Once a Week Nora" - all filth covered up as innuendo. Hypocrites who say his material was clean needs to have a rethink.

So many critics, who haven't got the balls to get up a try..... Comedy is the hardest of stage arts.... Yes it was innuendo; that was the whole point...... He was a gay icon, and the country's first gay variety act

@@ravenpen-orthyn9172 Comedy is not hard to do (or anything else) if you have talent. Grayson obviously had no talent; he was just as bad as that excuse for a comedian called Jimmy Tarbuck.

He was excellent Larry Grayson, the innuendo's are all there, very funny guy. I think Julian Clary has similarly took on Larry's mantle. But let's face it, Camp humour, never ever fails to raise a good laugh does it. I wonder if there was any hanky code in the jokes. I'm sure someone better informed will know.

In London post WW2 prostitutes would wear a red hat.
@GlowToneChannel
@GlowToneChannel 8 ай бұрын
I think it's based on the saying "Fur Coat - No Knickers" which implied that some women who wore fur coats wore no underwear. Slack Alice obviously went out wearing a red hat, which I think implies the same thing as the fur coat - in Larry's point of view, especially with the things he says about her. There's also a clip of Julian Clary bringing up the same point in one of the documentaries about Larry Grayson. Larry said the same joke about the red hat and gave some looks off camera as if to see if he was being signalled off stage. Julian Clary thinks there was some hidden meaning about the red hat which could have got him in trouble.
