Agreed!! Mr. Hagman would have won an Academy Award had he been given the right film role. Simply brilliant, but underrated because he critics saw him as a soap opera and comedy role actor. But not all soap operas are created equal, and neither are human beings, fortunately....that's how we are graced with the talents of the likes of Larry Hagaman. Thank God he loved life and lived it, and the joy he shared with us all while doing just that. I miss him dearly.

Damn!! He was only 49 years old here?? Wow. I've been a fan of his since I was a very small child watching him in " I dream of Jeannie". I'm now in my 50's....these old clips are surreal. Love this man's talent and acting range. A true Legend.

Such an amazing actor ! No one could do the role of JR Ewing like he had done. A truly modest and good hearted human being. May he rest in peace !

I agree wholeheartedly Bilal Ahmed!!! The character just took him over and when he was on screen, especially as J R Ewing, he WAS that character for all intents and purposes. As I think of it, it is amazing how he was able to take such a despicable character and develop all the multiple facets that allowed him to still have the charisma to be likeable. And that's just one character role among others. I truly believe that had he done more film roles, he would have won an Academy Award. I went to see "Primary Colors" in 1996 only because he appeared in it, and that was only a small display of his talents. He seemed damned to television because of the perception he was a soap opera actor. And yes, such a truly modest and good hearted human being, as you say. Obviously he made lots of immodest comments, but they were in jest. He enjoyed life as best he could, and we got to enjoy life that much more because of him. God bless him!!!!!

The Batman I absolutely agree. The only role that was a bit of a stretch for him was when he played Sherlock Holmes. The Texas accent just didn’t fit but the man was a brilliant actor. And of course the only one who could be JR Ewing.

Part of the reason why Larry enjoyed himself so much is that his success as JR came at a time where he was relatively middle aged. He was AWARE of his success and what it meant contrary to others who have success young and for them it's like a car crash.

1:42 he says he was constantly recognized, according to the daughters book in the late 90's If my memory serves me correctly, tells the story that he was walking around the famous Pike Place Market in Seattle, nobody recognized him for the longest time, he felt depressed, until it occurred to him to grab a large plastic fish that was laying around and used it as a prop, running around the market with it, until people paid notice..then he got happy

JayEd KC His silent sundays actually started on a friday when he spent 2 straight days taping rodeo scenes for a episode of I dream of jeannie titled "Ride 'em Astronaut." When he woke up saturday morning he could not utter a sound. The doctor told him he had strained his voice and advised him not to talk until monday. Since he did not have to work until wednesday he spent 4 whole days without speaking and rather enjoyed it. That next sunday he decided not to speak again. He did this for 25 years.
