I was in Raleigh, North Carolina hanging out with my buddy (and musical virtuoso) Joe Troop. Formerly of the band Che Apalache, he is now doing a new group with his friend Larry Bellorín. Larry is from Monagas, Venezuela and is a legend of Llanera music. One thing about being an immigrant to a new country though, you don't always end up doing the same thing you were doing in your original land. Sometimes even if you're an incredible, world class harp playing genius, you end up on a construction site. That is where we found Larry on this sweltering day, operating some heavy machinery. For lunch, Larry's wife brought the family and some good food, and we all sat around for a song.
Larry was able to quit construction in January to pursue music full time with Joe. Their debut album, Nuevo South Train, was produced by Charlie Hunter and was released March 24th this year.
They're touring coast to coast.
