One of my top movies. When I'm feeling a bit low I put this on. I grew up watching this with my dad. We are both fished a lot. I still do. Being from the working class it was a movie for us.

I saw this one as a kid, too young to really appreciate it but I remember liking it. Looking at it now, I want to see it again. Thanks for reminding me!

Unbelievable cast! Tracy was always brilliant, even in "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, World"! (might have forgotten a mad or two)

If Tracy's playing it too broad here, he's perfectly balanced out by Barrymore and Carradine, who bring a new meaning to the word "crusty". The best sea adventure that doesn't have pirates in it. Rated ARRRR.

Back when I finally saw it, I wanted to put it on MTV. I thought, if everyone was watching "my MTV", then this suddenly came on, there were kids it would be so good for. Determined "Bevise's and Buttheads" would not tolerate it, but there would be some who would watch, because it was weird and cool to have a surprise movie thrown at them like that, and those who did, would find something that answered in the ballpark area of what they deeply need. They would be, in effect, transported on that fishing boat they never had any idea of going on. It would help them, the way it helped "little fish".

There's no apostrophe in the title "Captains Courageous."

The best film I've seen Spencer Tracy in was Inherit the Wind. Firstly it's about a subject I am deeply fascinated by--evolution. Secondly, the cast is amazing from Dick York as the teacher arrested for teaching evolution to Frefreick March as the bombastic prosecutor. The finial confrontation between March and Tracy over the "reality" of the bible is an amazing piece of acting by both men. Then there is Gene Kelly as a hysterically cynical newspeaper man. Hopefully Trailers From Hell will do it
