Warren Haynes wrote this song while performing with the Allman Brothers Band, who did not want to use Soulshine. So then Warren lets Larry McCray record it. A year later, only after McCray's album was released with Soulshine, the Allman Brothers Band realized the potential of this song and recorded it themselves. I say give credit where it is due, THANK YOU LARRY McCRAY FOR MAKING THIS SONG COME TO LIGHT, BECAUSE IF IT WASN'T FOR YOU RECORDING IT FIRST, NO ONE ELSE WOULD HAVE!!!

i just came back from a concert of larry! I threw all my stuff in a corner, went straight to my pc and looked after this song!! I cant describe what i felt, it was simply amazing. i´ve seen about hundret entertainers in all sorts of places. I´VE NEVER HAD EXPERIENCED SOMETHING LIKE THAT! I felt like i was catched in that moment, in the sound and his voice while he was playing that song - if anyone of you ever has the chance to see him, GOGOGO!! No matter what, he´s brilliant.

hey you know what guys larrys the coolest guys you could ever meet in your entire life. my grandfather helped him get to where hes at. hes a small town blues producer. does STEAK N BLUES UP in michigan area at different times of the year check it out.. but yea my grandmother past away . an he came to be with my grandfather. cuz they were very close. an played this song on his accoustic guitar. an you know what. it was the best sending away song you could ever imagine. Thanks larry .

he came to my grandma's funeral, they were good ole friends. he played it in acoustic for her farewell song. by far the best version. RIP JoAnn, legit grandma.

Everyone...Larry is an amazing blues artist...i have seen him many times and met with him a few times too...i am a guitarist myself and he is an inspiration...he is a really down to earth kind of guy, if you ever see him in concert again go say hi to him...he will talk with you.

i saw him live with gov't mule last month and for those of you who dont know gov't mule's lead singer and guitarist warren haynes wrote the song soulshine when he played guitar for the allman brothers band in the 80's and 90's

Another one of today's great unsung blues guitarists. I saw him in Fort Collins, CO and he was awesome. I also got my picture with him, he's a hell of a nice guy.

you will never find a kinder soul, more fun guy to hang out with than this man! Larry and his brother Steve on drums are incredible! I must admit...this is my favorite version of Soulshine. Warren Haynes may have written the song and I love hearing him play it but my favorite version is the sweet guitar tones and huge voice of Larry and the harmonies of Steve in background! Talk about a GIGANTIC soulshine Larry and his brother Steve have...they remain the best! Shine until the break of day!

Thanks for the edumucation... I only knew of it as a Warren Haynes song from one of his (or Gov't Mule) albums.... had not heard the Larry McCray version. I agree with you... Warren's/GM's version is good, but this is greatness. Oh.. the version from Warren's acoustic live Bonaroo album is really good too... seek it out.
