Joe is one of the most generous & conciousness people on the planet. Like here, sharing lead with the other guitarist. I saw him in concert in the early mid 70's. He brought out 2 black dudes to sing background on a couple tunes & when finished, they both walked off stage in darkness. Joe quickly signaled to hit them with a light, then gave prop man a thumbs-up. That's stuck with me all these many years.

Joe shows his class and smarts here. You can hear Les' guitar is out-of-tune, so when Joe comes on, he doesn't tune the guitar on stage, out of respect. Then he chooses a blues tune with 9th chords which is perfect with the single-note stuff and lets the guitar be easier to manage. Plus he's always great with the crowd.

I grew up in Austin and once heard Stevie Ray Vaughan tell a joke: How many guitar players does it take to change a light bulb? Answer: 12 - One to change the bulb, 11 more to stand around saying they could do it better.Being put on the spot when you are in the company of guitar legends can really rattle some players and the end result is a performance that is less than they're capable of on a good day. I think the most disappointing thing about youtube is how many people rush to talk smack about other people (who are usually DOING what the smack talkers only talk about).

He sure knows how to play the blues, with all the little inflections that make the blues sound great. Some guys have it some don't. Sorry to bring race into it, but White guys from Texas know how to play the blues really well .

Black guys from everywhere taught them is why.

@@henrymcvey6538 Texas is home to some of the greatest blues players ever. Freddie king, Albert King, Albert Collins, T bone Walker, Lighnin Hopkins, Blind Lemon Jefferson. among many others. So naturally White kids in Texas learned from them, that's why they are better at it.

How many of you know that Les Paul more or less invented the electric guitar?
@neilphelan1453 жыл бұрын
He didn't actually invent the electric guitar. What he did was improve to the point of human perfection. In addition he invented a superior pickup as well as multi track recording equipment. And the list goes on. Both Les and his wife Mary Ford, who by the way, was a kick as guitarist in her own right. Google them to watch and listen to how advanced they were long before the phrase rock and roll was coined. When I was very young in the 50s we lived in New York. My mom was a classical pianist and knew them both. They told me that Les and Mary came to our place visit and talk music. I dont remember because I was too young.

@@neilphelan145-- so well written and researched, Neil! Here's to all of those early electric guitarists.

@@tenpiloto Thanks for the comment. I became aware of rock and roll in 60 when I was 5. I started to learn piano and guitar when I was 10. Played in my first band when i was 13. My parents were very supportive of me and my friends. We tore the roof our garage (not literally) playing Stones, Kinks, the Who, the Animals, ect. Wanna be rock stars 🤯 We had a blast! I wish the youngsters of today were learning to play instruments to keep up the tradition. Anyway, Keep On Truckin' ✌

@@neilphelan145-- I grew up in Fargo, ND. At age 13 (1959 winter) guess who I was waiting to see? But our local 17 yo Bobby Vee stood in and made a name for himself.

@@tenpiloto That must've been a moment you've never forgotten! My first concert was in '69. Alice Cooper opened followed by Eric Burdon and War, with Lee Michaels headlining. $3.75. I grew up in San Gabriel Ca next to Pasadena Ca so I saw alot of concerts. Two brothers that I knew went all the way to super stardom. Eddie & Alex Van Halen. Spent many an hour watching them play back yard parties, bars, and clubs. I recently retired after 44 years driving trucks over the road. I traveled thru your home town more times than I can remember. Beautiful area but the winters sucked big time! I wouldnt have traded my experiences for all of the tea in China. 👍

That's actually a legitimate song, written by the same guy who gave us "she would be the perfect woman if she didn't say 'fuck' so much " and "trashy side".

Yes, it must have been INCREDIBLE to have had the priveledge of even BEING in that room with the likes of musicians of THAT caliber. And no, although it may sound like double-talk, it's not. The appropriately-placed apostrophe makes it proper English all around.
