Several of Larry McMurtry’s books became feature films. He had a few book stores across the country, including one in Houston.

@@AyeThatsHandsomePete Over 350 million books sold. Has written over 80 books, almost all of which were best sellers, including books written under a pseudonym. Nominated for 279 awards. Won 107. His books have been adapted into 60 movies, and numerous TV series. McMurtry had less than 10 movies and one of them is Brokeback Mountain. 🤣🤣🤣 Its not even close. King is KING.

@@AyeThatsHandsomePeteHe’s definitely up there don’t discredit him. Misery flew over most peoples heads Annie Wilkes is a big metaphor. His character work of children and teens is scarily good. 11/22/63, Pet Sematary, IT, Revival, without even mentioning his short story collections, or the Dark Tower for Christ’s sake. I personally have SK over McMurtry, he’s basically the most prolific author alive. His Holly books are meh, but don’t act like he isn’t one of the greatest authors of our time. His “You Like It Darker” collection wasn’t even bad. The dude can still write despite his political distaste’s bleeding onto the page.

My introduction of Mr. Larry McMurtry came to me roughly 6 months ago. I've been an avid reader my entire adult life, but the "western" genre and in particular, anything written by Larry McMurtry was completely unfamiliar to me. I have nothing against westerns, but I was never introduced to them and never found myself being interested by them until recently. I was given a copy of Lonesome Dove, by a friend of mine who told me that it was one of the greatest books he's ever read, and that even if I've never read a western novel before, regardless I should give this book a read. So I read it. And it becomes one of my favorite books of all time! Larry McMurty easily becomes one of my favorite authors of all time. Since finishing Lonesome Dove back in May, I've since have read, Streets of Laredo, Dead Man's Walking, Commanche Moon, and am currently reading Anything for Billy. I am 38 and cannot believe that I'm just now discovering these masterworks by such a gifted and talented writer, Larry McMurtry. But so glad that I did.

I've always said , what William Faulkner was to Mississippi, Larry McMurtry was to Texas. Like Faulkner, he had such a keen grasp on the human condition and on how people dealt with loneliness and despair. A magnificent writer.
