One thing I love about U2... Despite their undeniable talent as musicians, individually and as a band, there's still something scrappy and raw about them. Starting in a kitchen, just kids, with barely an idea of how to play. But they made it work together, and look what they became! An incredible story and the greatest band of all time.

I met him after one of their early concerts (1980, only cost a quid to see them!!!). Super friendly and kind, he was still sitting at his drums after the concert, and addressed myself and a friend, gave us his autograph and then encouraged us to go backstage to meet the rest of the band. Got their autographs too. Knew even then, that U2 were going far. Still remember the energy! And still remember Larry with gratitude.

The Drum beat on Sunday Bloody Sunday was the first time a drum beat meant something to me..it sounded like a semi automatic rifle being fired. I was raised in England in the 70s...all my family were Irish..so that makes me a plastic paddy i guess. This song sums up that time perfectly, the troubles n violence..Bombs..but ultimately, resolution and peace..Gawd bless ya Larry.

Larry is so humble. He says it best himself, he may not be the best, but he's DIFFERENT. I think that makes all the difference. Of course he's not the best drummer, but he's one of the most unique and recognizable and I think that's even more important as a musician. Find your own voice, the Van Halens, the John Bonhams, the Fleas, they are already taken. Be yourself. Congrats Larry, you are the backbone of probably the greatest live band to ever live and ironically, still going as strong as ever. I cherish their longevity as bandmates and I think they do too.

When I started taking my first drum lessons, one of the first things my teacher told me was "the best drummer is not the one who does the most impressive things, the best drummer is the one who always does what the song needs, neither more nor less, "and Larry is of this kind of drummers, he is not the most spectacular but he always does the best for the song and that makes him (for me) one of the best.

He's not wrong. I can still remember back in 1987 when my best friend (who's a professional drummer) heard Larry play for the first time and yelled: "What the HELL is he doing?". He's been going on about it ever since, going on more than 30 years now. He likes Larry's drumming, but he's a schooled drummer, and he just can't figure out how he's playing and why. And it drives him nuts. :)

I’ve played drums since I was 8 years old. I’m 53 now, so that’s a lot of mileage. Whenever someone asks me what advice I’d give to a drummer starting out, I always quote Larry from the wrap-up question of an interview he did with Modern Drummer magazine in the mid-80’s when they asked him the same question. His response? “Hit ‘em hard.” Great advice from the great drummer of a great band. He seems like a really genuine and humble guy - he deserves all the success he’s enjoyed.

I remember that in the beginning the mainstream radio stations didn't really like to play their music, but they just kept going and developed the unique U2 sound...and became popular !!

So nice to see Larry walking through Rosemount Avenue...where everything began 42 years ago. I've also been there on monday and it was just amazing! Standing in front of the house where the first rehearsals were done...walking the streets in Artane where these four Irish must have walked for many times... I was happy and proud to be there! Greetings from Germany! :-)

I think this Dude is the real deal. He, unlike his other band members are not taking me to school and teaching me how to be a better person -- He just plays in the band and is great. I am not looking for lessons of life from guys in U2 or any other athlete or celebrity -- it just turns me off. But that aside, I think Larry just expresses what a great professional person in a great band should be... I wish you years of great happiness and great music. Phil.

When you think about it....... what an amazing band came out of these random guys getting together and learning their craft together. Some brilliant music with very unique musical acumen.

Great drummer and also the one with the best hair(cuts) in U2. Larry always looks so damned cool in his crewcut.

I just realized that during this video that it's very highly possible that all four of them I've never had any other job other than the band. How fortunate is that😎
