In 1993, as a 12-year-old wannabe percussionist that was exploring the world of music, MTV was my best friend (and best source to feed this addiction). I remember the first time I heard Tool, as I watched the unorthodox video for "Sober", I thought to myself "This is just different.". I liken it to years prior, the first time I heard "Bohemian Rapsody" by Queen. Simply unlike anything that I had ever heard, and even as a youngster, you can just tell you're hearing something special and unique. It's been a pleasure to watch them grow and morph into the artists they are today, with each album seemingly able to one-up the prior. "Pneuma" is like multiple brilliant and technically complex songs melded together with buttery smooth fills to segway one to the next. In a catalog filled to the brim with dynamic masterpieces, I would have to consider this the best of the best. Just an unreasonably delicious piece of artwork. Bravo!

I used to work out at the gym with Danny Carey and he is the coolest guy. Like a normal person he would ask for a spot and spot you on bench etc and shoot the shit. It seems we had similar schedules so I saw him their often. I am a guitar player and a huge tool fan but I didn’t recognize him. He even wore the Carey jersey and I didn’t put two and two together, I thought he was in to sports and I don’t follow sports. No body guards or attitude just a down to earth human. One day my friend came with me to the gym who is a guitar player as well. I started talking to Danny and afterwards my friend was loosing it. He said “do you know who the fuck that is”! I was like yeah Danny he’s a pretty cool guy. He’s says that’s Danny fucken Carey from tool. It took every bone in my body not to geek out and make a fool of myself after that. Eventually, down the road we were talking about music and sure enough he was the drummer for tool. It was epic to workout next to Danny for a year and a half while I was at music school. He definitely doesn’t have an attitude or a huge ego just a down to earth awesome human.

You MIGHT go a day or two getting ads, but just wait, and the add-on will update, then no more ads for another year or so. It's a battle that youtube basically gave up one.
@bigwillie57178 ай бұрын
As frustrating as ads are (I’m with you), it costs to run an app like YT; and, because the YT owners aren’t running YT as a charity, they want to profit as well; rightfully so. Just like TOOL charging for tickets to their shows to cover expenses, salaries for the band and crew, management, booking agents, insurance, etc...and for the performers to earn a profit as well. Likewise, for YT owners to earn a profit, it comes from advertisers/ads. YT isn’t simply a platform to run endless videos for free. YT also offers a no-ad option for $ if the ads are really bothersome. I’ve been tempted sometimes because of the geniuses at YT dropping ads at the worst possible time…which is, ironically, the best time for the advertiser. Like we learned in college macro-economics…no such thing as a free lunch.

Tool played at the Bomb Factory in Dallas (1993?). Undertow had just come out. My friend and I didn't have tickets but had to go. We dropped 6 hits of Felix the Cat each and rolled out. We were standing out back trying to rush in the back door while the Flaming Lips were playing (openers). The big ass Samoan bouncer guy knew what we were up to but we were so lit that we kept trying. Each time he would shut us down. Finally I asked my friend if the tour bus back there was Tool's. He said let's find out and proceeds to walk up and go inside. He was in there for less than 10 seconds (it seemed anyways) and comes back out. I asked him if it was Tool in there and he said yes. I asked what did they say. He said "get the fuck out!". Just then the bus door opens and everyone starts unloading and walking into the back door. We were dumbfounded watching. The last guy coming off walks past me and I stopped him. I said dude we got to get in there to see Tool. He said "you got a ticket?". I said fuck no but we gotta see em. He said hold on. He went in and came back out a moment later with the bouncer and flagged us to come on in. Fuckin crazy. We followed the dude all the way up to the stage until security made us stop. Dude keeps going and gets behind the drums. It was fuckin Danny Carey. Love you man. Best memory ever. Best show ever.

6:16 - 8:54 ... Two and a half minutes straight of a 3/4 polyrhythm by a single person... I mean sure, you can get into the rhythm of it after a while... but then to move the polyrhythm around the drum set? Then come out of the polyrhythm with no issue!? AMD should sponsor him, cuz that's some multi-core processing!

ONLY reason I listen to TOOL is to hear Danny Carey. Pure polyrhythm genius

This song is absolutely perfect, one of the rare 50 or so I've ever heard that I wouldn't change anything about if I could.
