Rest in peace, Phil. I watch these shows because there were far more intelligent discussions back in the day. Thank you for all you did for our world! 🌎

In 1982, "Donahue" moved to the historical, since demolished, Studios of WBBM-TV/CBS 2 on McClurg Court after having been produced at WGN-TV for eight years. The show continued to be produced and broadcast "LIVE" in Chicago, and available markets. Ron Weiner, the thrice Emmy Award Winning Director of the show made the move too. In 1985, the program relocated to NBC's Studio 8G in Rockefeller Center where it would remain until 1995, then relocate to the News/Talk Cable Studios for its final season. Unfortunately, Ron did not make the move to New York as Alice, his wonderful wife, did not want to live there. This was a terrific Era in not only Chicago Television, but National Daytime Television as well. "Oprah" would take over "AM Chicago" in 1984, and the rest is history. Thanks for sharing.

Phil Donahue’s show me as the most pivotal show , because it still relates to todays times. Serious talk with everyday obsession of the worlds views. They don’t make shows like these anymore, we needs articulated host like phill. Today everyone has a nuclear ☢️ 💣 it’s like an eye 👁 📞 they crazy just got to have one

"Donahue" was never a "visual" show. Ron Weiner (The thrice Emmy Award Winning Director) was equally responsible for the long running success of program. Ron's rapid switching ("takes"), multiple (5) cameras (and their placement), and bumpers made up for this. Ron's flawless technical direction and vision set the stage for other Daytime Television Talk Shows to follow.

I watched Phil’s show religiously in the early to mid 80s. There simply wasn’t anything as regularly intelligent as this show. Bless you Phil for blazing a trail that so many others imitated but didn’t surpass. RIP.

watching this show which is 41 years old I realize that in reality it's the various US governments that we Europeans should never have trusted! Each conflict was started by the Americans, the wars in Iraq, Syria Libya for oil, the false accusations against Saddam Hussein. The aggression against Serbia in 99, the war in Ukraine etc etc

They seem to think that ALL nuclear arms must necessarily be used, and that ALL of those arms will reach their targets.

Nuclear war? In the 60's when I was a boy in school, we had air raid drills. The alarm bells and horns filled the hallways. We were taught to duck and cover under our desks, or line up and go to the school basement. Never were we told why. I remember the expressions on the teachers faces that said "here we go again" showing me they were thinking it was a useless, ridiculous, silly thing to do. I didn't understand it all until I was about 8 or 9. I didn't give it much thought because I was just trying to have fun as a boy and didn't have paranoia in my life. During the Cuban missile crisis the adults seemed to know that something bad was about to happen but they didn't know when. The bad thing never happened. My friends and I just continued on being kids and finding fun things to do. Our world leaders need to learn how to play well with others.

I was born in the late 90s but hearing about air raid in schools reminds me of the old school i went to when i was little. it was very old had old creepy bathrooms with black toilet seats the computers were ancient and had those huge red bells in the hallway. The high ceilings were creepy to. And it was in the hood. Old huge schools and buildings creep me out idk why

Paul Newman could have been good president material today, 42 years later. Time flies but some matters seem permanent.

Do you notice though, in the discussion, though there is a raised voice on occasion, nobody in disagreement ever responds with: “are you stupid?!”

Paul Newman seemed nervous. I wonder if he was new to the issue.

Paul Newman was handsome and a good actor. That's it. He should have taken care of his son. He died young. Yet he wanted to change the world.
