About the ambi mag release. In the French Foreign Legion we would also block the mag release on the left side of the weapon. Especially on when the gun was used on parades... dont know how many guys lost their mags in the middle of the parade rehearsal. Afterwears we would just put a piece of electical tape or duct tape to keep the mag from falling out even if the magrelease war accidentally engaged.

Few points I'd like to add: (Mine is MR223 A3 unit #16943 with added adjustable gas block) The piston is not user-serviceable ;) I really have not found anything to do with it. It just runs. When cleaning the gun (every 300-600 rounds suppressed) I put some motor oil or boretech to the vent hole to soften the carbon. No actual reason though for this though.. The trigger gets quite good after some wear from use. It was quite stiff/numb from the factory. The gun really is accurate. Chrome-lined barrel. I have no problem doing 1moa with match ammo. Groups are around 0.6moa to 0.8moa. Over 0.8moa groups are on me, by pulling one shot (so far 1 in 30 shots / 6 groups of Sako Racehead). The mean radius is 10mm. Groups with bulk ammo are on average around 1.3 to 1.5moa. Ofc I do many sub moa groups, but on average. I put 1k rounds through it without cleaning the barrel and it still did easy sub moa 5 shot group with match ammo. The handguard (really never reason to remove it, as the piston needs no cleaning) keeps zero. But I have removed it and put it back without zero change. And my scope mounts partially on it. Mag bevel, mine has pretty big bevel so they have returned to it. Reliability, I had 2 malfunctions when I first got it due to using lower gas setting in the gas block without suppressor (I tested, what happens). It cycles, barely, and sometimes fails to pick up the round correctly. And one malfunction when I shot with gas port on high setting with a suppressor, which is weird. The PMAG was almost empty and probably did not feed fast enough. Around 2.5K in total through it and I have great trust in the rifle.

william flowers It's cool, we've got the Sa 80A3 which is doing the business for us. We stuck with it, HK did a 93million upgrade for us and we are more than impressed with the result. As for the 416. Luckily our SF's get to play with them Awesome weapon system if a touch heavy but for reliability it's not getting beat. I'd rather have the more reliable system than have an easier time with a weapon I can't rely on.

The cotter pin struggle comes for us all. Great video.
@TheBigOne03054 жыл бұрын
H&K fixed that on the later versions. I suspect it would also have been on his MR223, mine is 300-400 further on in the serial number range (his lower an upper don't appear to match) and it has it. The firing pin retaining pin is no longer the flimsy cotter pin but rather a captured pin (similar in concept to the takedown pins). It can be removed without tools by just pushing it in with your finger from the opposite side. To reinsert you simply the push bolt face and firing pin simultaneously while lifting the firing pin safety (sounds complicated, but can be easily done with your thumb and index or middle finger). I struggled the first few times with mine (I knew about ARs and their mechanics in theory, but had never taken one apart or even handled one), but once you figure it out, it can be done completely blind in a matter of seconds.

I've only just discovered Larry, but I'm really enjoying his videos! He's clearly highly experienced, extremely knowledgeable and technically proficient... ...and as we'd say over here in the United Kingdom "a real gentleman" too! A quick question for you guys in the United States, who know everything there is to know about the AR15 platform: We're allowed AR15-style guns over here in the United Kingdom on our "Category 1 Firearms Certificate (although the gas piston system has to be removed, making it "a straight pull" as we would call it). I'd love a HK416/MRR223, but I can't find one here, so I'm thinking of buying a "Lewis Machine & Tool Company CQB MRP Defender". The British army use LMT parts on the SA80A2/A3, the LMT L129A1 and the British police use the LMT CQB MRP Defender, and so if it's good enough for them, then it's good enough for me! I was just wondering if any of you guys had any experience and/or opinions of the MRP? Pros, cons and pitfalls of ownership? Thanks in advance! Deano 🤓 🇬🇧

In my opinion the G36 is not a bad weapon - but not a great one either It has some good features and is very reliable but a few things ergonomically and design wise are less than ideal in my opinion It certainly wouldn't be my first choice in a 5.56mm assault rifle - but it wouldn't be my last one either It is very interesting in the respect that both the SCAR and Masada/ACR are heavily G36 inspired - and the G36 is an adaptation of the AR-18 ; truly the unsung hero of the Stoner design team - it has influenced far more weapons after it's introduction than the M16 ever did. How is the gas system enable the rifle to complete the cycle before the projectile exit the barrel compare to the direct impingement system?
@ChucksSEADnDEAD3 жыл бұрын
It doesn't complete the cycle before the bullet leaves the barrel. What happens in the DI carbine is that a barrel that's cut too short will have the bullet uncork out and the pressure vent out of the muzzle, which gives little time for pressure build up to reach the bolt. In a HK416 the gas pressure hits the piston immediately.

You are wrong..The bullet is long gone before the bolt un-locks..It is impossible for the bolt to unlock and cycle while the bullet is in the bore. The pressures are at their highest and case expansion is at its strongest in the chamber..It is the residual pressure that cycles the action, (after) the bullet has left the barrel..It is like disconnecting an air hose from the source..The longer the air hose, the longer the air takes to leave the hose..The air you hear escaping the air hose is residual pressure..This is the same with the barrel port location..The farther the port is from the end of the barrel, the longer the dwell time and residual pressure takes to escape..This is why LMT made their enhanced carrier with the longer cut in the straight part..It allowed more time for the residual pressure to leave the barrel and improve extraction with a short carbine length gas system..It is also why it would not work reliably with a rifle length gas system, as it allowed too much residual pressure to leave before the bolt un-locks..
