Laughter through tears and darkness is a gift. One night working a closing shift at my old job, one of my co-workers pointed out that it was Father's Day and their dad was no longer with us. I said my dad died already, too. We checked and realized the entire shift, all five of us, had dead dads. We all laughed about the fact that they scheduled an entire closing shift on Father's Day of folks without dads. We had to wonder if that was on on purpose. Did they think, "Well none of these folks are taking their dads out for dinner that night, sooooo..." We called ourselves the Dead Dad Crew and joked about making t-shirts. It was a wide age range in our team that night, too. The oldest person was close to 60 and the youngest was only like 22. I asked the scheduling manager next time I saw her if it was deliberate and she felt terrible and apologized profusely. I just laughed and said, "You should have taken credit, we all thought it was brilliant for a variety of reasons!"

Happy birthday Larry. This is your best show ever. I laughed until the tears ran down my legs and I cried about your loss of Paul. It's obvious that you had a great friendship and that he will never leave you. Just look over your shoulder. Love you man. Take care. From a guy in Stirling.

My grandmother's funeral had probably the most inappropriate music ever. Her favourite song was "Bad Moon Rising" by Creedence Clearwater Revival. So, as her name was Mary, and she was a proud lady, the family chose to play "Proud Mary" as her coffin was carried into the crematorium... it was only then that they realised the lyrics were "Proud Mary keep on burning."

Paul sounds like an exemplary friend. as are you. what a way to honor your best friend. my best friend died in college a week after another friend's father died. both were cremated. at the first party after spring break, there was an ash tray overflowing and i said to my friend, "your dad is a sloppy drunk" and he replied, "i just emptied my dad into the trash can under the sink. That (pointing to the ashtray) is *******." we cackled while everyone else looked at us slack-jawed:)

"Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion". - Dolly Parton, from Steel Magnolias. The song "I'm allright, nobody worry 'bout me" from the movie Caddyshack was played in the cemetary when my Dad died. Beautiful homage to Paul.

Absolutely tremendous, and at a great timing for me personally. My father died 10 years ago, and in years I couldn't be with my family for the memorial, I'd been bringing in people who've never heard of him, to tell his story; I have a slideshow and everything; I call it "lessons from dad"; lesson 1 is "be silly; be serious, but also be silly". Now, I like to tell people *in advance* that they're listening to a eulogy, but that's just a matter of personal preference. What this show did for me (other than, y'know, making me laugh and cry), is give me the confidence that it's a good way to remember him. I mean, none of us can forget Paul now, can we?

Hi Larry. Wasn't expecting laughs and tears for the show. At first, i was hoping it is a comedy show for silly jokes and laughs. But then Paul story came out and I started to cry. (Easy to feel related...) Although it is your personal story and not exactly silly jokes, I don't regret watching the show. What a great way to remember a loved one. Agreed "We can learn somethings from jokes". Thank you for letting us know Paul.
