Tbh Cloud is the natural evolution of a Mario main at high-level smash imo. Their playstyles are similar in terms of agro, but Cloud sacrifices some frame data for a big ass sword and 9/10 it's worth it

It was Back-Air Also, I know exactly what Zenyou means and from the looks of how smooth his Cloud is, Zenyou should definitely main him. Keep mario as a second but Cloud really does look like an more of an extension of himself and thats after playing Mario all this time. Just because a character is top tier like Mario, that doesnt mean they're a perfect fit with everybody. If a character does everything you want them to do that means they fit your playstyle. Since Z feels that way about Cloud he should just main him. His cloud has a very unique style i'd definitely want to see more in the future

I know exactly how this Mario feels. I feel the same way whenever I play Mario online and he is by far my most played and loved character. Character I pick up for a week or two ends up in elite. Mario I've been playing for 2 years and he is in like bottom 90 percentile.

Exactly! I don’t know what it is. Mario is my main (and has been, even in smash 4) yet every other character I pick up seems to get similar, if not better results. Mario has crazy combos, sure, but I refuse to believe he’s top tier. When I play Joker, I feel carried. I don’t feel carried when I play Mario, I feel constantly under pressure. I think part of it is his stubby moves. He has such a hard time getting in verses some characters. His only real option to get in is to spam fireball and bair. Any other move, and you’re setting yourself up to be punished. It’s kind of like what Zenyou said before, if you put yourself in range to get hit by Mario, that’s on you. His out of shield options are many, but they’re small. It’s just the way his kit was made. And I’m not saying it’s not balanced, it’s just way more difficult to win neutral when people are walling you out with their disjoints. Especially considering other top tiers have things like pancaking, invincible aerials, items, waft, float cancelling, or just more disjoints in general than Mario. Maybe I need to change my playstyle as well, or maybe (just a thought), Mario isn’t as good as people say he is. Also, in no way am I saying that I know more about the games than actual pros. Most of my matches are against a Marth main that is also just a spectator of the competitive scene. I’d like to think I’m pretty good though, I play pretty often.

Nah... Mario is easily top tier. He has some of the best frame data in the game, he can kill you at almost any percent from basically any of his combo starters (which are like half his kit), BROKEN smash attacks, good recovery, great ground and air speed, bair is one of the best moves in the game... need I say more?

@@Nowel22222 not exactly the rebuttal I was expecting, but I respect it. I agree, his frame data and combos are crazy, but every other top tier has that or something to make up for it. Heck, even high tiers have a few, if not all of these characteristics. Yet, they often have some other gimmick to back them up in neutral, while Mario is kind of stuck flailing his limbs in all directions. I just think he has too many difficult matchups to be top tier. But then again, what do I know? I mostly just verse Marth, and it’s frustrating as heck.

@@gkoala2295 Mario is one of the few characters in the cast where I feel like you actually have to constantly go for risky interactions in order to take stocks, he doesn't really have much "safe" setups that leads to a kill or anything like that (because of his lack of range mostly ?). But honestly, that's like.. his only weakness lol. Every other aspect of mario makes up for it. The only gimmicky/campy move is his fireball (and also fsmash to a certain extent because it's a godlike move).

Poke with attacks that threaten to hit they other player if they move into your zone while staying outside of their effective zone. The tighter you can make that difference the more effective your pressure will be

Basically the smaller the margin you can make between getting hit and not getting the hit the better, and you will be able to effectively whiff punish quicker and harder.
