I miss the group very much too! In 1972 my boyfriend and me had vacs in Copenhagen and got to know, Marc, Tony and Billy. As a matter of fact, we spent every day for one week with them all. They invited us to the cinema to see the movie Macbeth, which was released right then. We also visited a disco with them, on each floor there was playing another group. We went shopping together, went to the comic shops were hanging out in the parks and so on and so on. All in all, It was total fun. Till now I get the chills when I hear Marc's voice from a record.

I find myself once again saying "right on" Cool" "Groovy-etc. I listen to something of T Rex everyday-crank it up while I watch every move Marc Bolan makes & know the words to all his songs-I've listened to his music for 40 years He was such a unique package all in one. Gorgeous-his "own" fashion & style. He wasn't a follower he was a leader. The way he put his poetry to music & performed withut missing a beat the way he could captivate his audience is spectaculor. The band is so in tune to what Marc is doing & they meld so well together. So hard to believe all but Bill Legend are gone-such a vital group. If they had of lived they would be in their 60's this way they are immortally young in our media and our hearts.

Seriously, many great artists have a bad down period (in rocknroll? probably too many to count). Cocaine, booze. Marc pulled out of that thankfully. He got healthier in 1976. The birth of his son in 1975 helped turn him around and he made it out of that decline. 1977 was a wonderful year for him, with deserved success, and he was fit and healthy then. So I politely disagree with your total assessment. He was far, far more than any one period - ten years of great music, incredible performances & a brilliant songwriter. And he was past the worst, enjoying life again and doing very well indeed, when that tragic accident happened. Only 29. He didn't have a chance to do more. But he was not wasted and out of it in '77, and he left us a wealth of great music to enjoy. Timeless, classic music.

The chart used by the BBC for TOTP showed Children of the Revolution as a No.2 but it was No.1 in Melody Maker. The chart used by BBC took a lot of their sales data from stores like Woolworths, Boots and others. These were the types of outlets people would go to to buy novelty records which frequently made No.1 in the UK. Charts compiled for the Music Media like Melody Maker and NME used sales info from record store chains and independent record stores. T.Rex missed out on having No1’s with White Swan (kept at No.2by Clive Dunn’s Grandad) Jeepster (kept at No2 by Bernie Hill’s Ernie ) and Solid Gold Easy Action (Kept at No2 by Little Jimmy Osmond).
