"Lars and Jonathan: A Berlin Friendship" features German actor Lars Eidinger and American novelist Jonathan Lethem. Directed by A.K. Barrett, the film was made for The Magical Secrecy Tour, a journey into the surveillance culture of Berlin on June 5, 2014, one year after Snowden.
"Lars and Jonathan" was filmed on location at The American Academy in Berlin. The film was made in conjunction with The Magical Secrecy Tour (www.transmedial..., a bus tour into the surveillance culture of Berlin on June 5, 2014. Co-produced by transmediale, N.K. Projekt, and Leslie Dunton-Downer, the event marks one year since the public was introduced to whistleblower Edward Snowden. The Magical Secrecy Tour brings together historians, theorists, artists, activists, hackers, lawyers, journalists, politicians, whistleblowers, and members of the public to participate in a rolling "panel" discussion about Snowden and related subjects in light of visits to sites including the Stasi Archives, the Spy Bridge, Teufelsberg, the Reichstag, and C-Base.
The journey concludes with a Happening at N.K. Projekt in Neukölln, where musicians and performance artists create new works in response to the NSA leaks. The Happening begins with a screening of "Lars and Jonathan." (www.nkprojekt.d...)
