Lars is a great guy. He's gone through some weird phases (like almost everyone) but you can tell he's very humble und genuinely grateful for everything he's achieved.

Ultimately, Lars is a well-spoken rock star. Yeah, he has ego -- of course he does. He has also matured since a decade ago. I'm not a drumming critic. All I know is that he hits the skins hard and what he does seems perfect for the song. When you factor in Lars' skill as an arranger, he is utterly crucial to Metallica as a creative force. I bought Master of Puppets as a 16-year-old kid, and I'm still buying their albums. If the inspiration is still there, they should keep making music. Listen to Hardwired and it's evident that the inspiration is still there -- big time.

Elmo Blatch Maybe he DOESN'T have any self anymore !!!😎🤔😯😊😃😀 oh no when was DM released hmmm I stopped my fandom of Metallica with Re-Load, I mean, the Black Album and K' (them) ALL and Orion the bass song, Lars Ulrich would not understand those matters, it's guitar world subjects, just placing an ad in a newspaper 💙📰🗓📇does not make someone the "creator" of some creative material - especially on the sound-bite-plot side of the finished work - there ARE wrong ways to digest Metallica music 1981-2040

@KBS 22 - Have you seen the behind the scenes footage of Metallica writing their stuff? A fuck of a lot of the time it's James listening to Lars' ideas about how the song should be re-arranged or how he would like this or that style of riff or what he wished it felt liek.. oviously Lars doesn't come up with some of the most important elements like the guitar riffs themselves but a Metallica song is so much more then just a riff... it's the whole feel of the composition. Plus he can sometimes deliver some reealy awesome, solid drum lines

Q: Hey, Lars. Real fast, is it raining outside? Lars : Is it raining? Could it rain? Will it rain? When will it rain? What causes rain? These are all questions that...like, ultimately, what do they mean? I, um, have been around like 35 years in this music industry and I've learned to love all different kinds of weather. Is it raining right now? No. Is it likely? Yes, I think it is likely that rain will fall. But I don't feel it's my place to judge. Do I agree with rain? Or disagree with rain? Do I like thunderstorms? Or lightning? I mean, It's not about me. It's about the collective. Right? Rain is cool. Clouds are awesome to lots of people. I mean, James would say its partly cloudy. I would say it's partly sunny. And as a unit, as a collective, Metallica's beautiful offering is being able to offer our fans so many different perspectives. You know? But, to answer your question, it is raining now. But 20 minutes ago when you asked it was only drizzling. So, yeah I'm just thankful for it all brother.

I struggle to understand those who claim Lars is a spoiled jerk who doesn't belong in Metallica. Clearly, he can engage in a normal and bias-free conversation with anyone. So age is catching up with his drumming skills...who cares? History is by far more important than skill at this point in Metallica's timeline.

in the documentary you can see how self absorbed he is, and how people close to the band dont care about him as much as say Kirk. But who cares, when you're in the biggest heavy band ever you're going to have some ego. As for his drumming, it was the Justice album that inspired me to pick up the drums so that must say something.

Lars forgot history for a moment at 10:02, about "never being a band to just capture that" and share it with the world. They wrote almost all of the Master of Puppets album in 8 weeks, the only songs that were not completely finished at 8 weeks were Orion and (I forget the other one now). Lars told Rolling Stone that he was amazed "how in the hell?" him and James were able to do most of that in 8 weeks, compared to now, which takes forever.

16 hundred Metallica Riffs !!! Oh man... How I would love to have my hands on those! In 2016 the most complete edition of Mozart was released on 200CDs... Hope Metallica does that one day, a somewhat "Live Shit box"! That would be freakin' awesome. I'm not in a band anymore but I play guitar and I have over a thousand riffs and songs ideas.
