Lieber Lars im Musikerhimmel, danke für dieses wunderbare Geschenk. Für diesen Großen Gesang. Für die beiden Komponisten sind es Abschieds- und Todesgesänge, mit denen Du Dich auch von uns verabschiedet hast. Ich bin sehr gerührt. Danke auch für Dein transparentes Spiel, bei dem ich an manchen Stellen neue Klänge höre, die zuvor bei anderen Pianisten nicht so hervortraten. Beispiele sind parallel im Sextabstand verlaufende Melodien wie im 1. Satz oder die schönen Synkopen im Trio des 3. Satzes.

I am amazed that, nowadays, after long and exhuasting concerts that high level professional musicians take the time to sit and sign CDs and talk to what might be annoying fans. Sometimes you just dont want to talk to anyone after putting so much energy into even a normal exhausting task. In any case, that's what happened in San Diego, after a marvelous concert by Mr. Vogt and his assistant ;-) Christian Tetzlaff...of Mozart, Brahms, and Bartok, if memory serves.....I bought a CD for my dear friend Allen, who was nearly on his death bed from Multiple Sclerosis (dead 6 months later) ., and who was an effusive fan of Tetzlaff's Bach, which is what brought me to the concert. Aside from the concert being so breathtaking, both the piano and the violin, it was an equally moving experience to be met so kindly, and with such a large open smile and empathy by Mr. Vogt, who appeared absolutely excited i was buying their CD for my friend... I came here because i wanted to hear how he handles the Janacek, who i know so well from the Czechs Moravec and Kapil, introduced to by the very well done film interpretation of the novel by Kundera, The Unbearable Lightness of Beiing... Lovely interpretation. On my way to buy his album now...

Does anyone know of the opening phrase is a adaptation from that Christmas Carol we learned in school (before the separation of church and state, such as it is, in USA) that i suspect like a lot of our Xmas songs in USA (and our food! ) comes from Deutschland, "O Come Let Us Adore Him"? or is it just coincidence, as tunes float through our heads from all over?

Interesting. Of course, it's four notes only, so ... hm. But it could be possible. That Christmas tune is older than Schubert's sonata, and the popular version of it (which is still sung today) stems from 1823, I believe.

Tut mir wirklich leid für diesen tollen Musiker, daß er nach so harter Arbeit am Instrument und bei einer so tollen Begabung so früh so jung sterben musste!
