Felt the same right now. Never heard them together since they never played in my country ( if I'm right). Now I know, what I missed. At least I heard Neil and Ricky with Al Jarreau, Buzz with Dave Weckl and Lenny with Toto, even with the great Jeff Porcaro. ❤ Are Neil and Buzz still playing together? Such a great find! 👏👍

Absolutely outstanding! I was very lucky to know Neil in his Sarasota, Florida days way back in the early/mid 60s. We played together in high school and community jazz bands. It was clear then that he was a musical genius and destined for bigger things. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Larsen What a gift to all of us his music is!

@kevinpatrick6273Ай бұрын
@@stilllife4u Small world indeed… Where did you and the Admirals play? And when? I can’t recall your band specifically. Was Neil part of it? Our bands came out of Brookside Jr. High and Riverview High. As well as a musical instrument store (name?) in downtown Sarasota that was a sort of refuge for those of us who sought refuge in music and played on weekends or other times in their back room. ‘62-‘65 maybe? We played at proms, restaurants, resorts, etc. from north of St. Pete south to Ft. Myers. We all loved it, but only Neil was truly gifted...
Maybe my all-time favorite band...thanks for posting. Their material and musicianship really holds up. Wow!

I loved this band. I simply don't think anyone can match Buzz on the guitar. What phrasing, what chops, what total command of the instrument, what imaginative, complex, yet always highly musical lines. I honestly think no one is in his league. Carlton, Robben Ford, Lukather, all close, but just not there. Neil Larsen, a superb songwriter and a dynamite player as well. And the guys behind them smoke as well. My only complaint is the overly processed tone, and that Buzz never seems loud enough. I wish all of the synths would have been replaced with a nice B3 and that Buzz just played a high end amp. But they are such superlative musicians that you should be able to abstract from that.
@MrLosguerreros7 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean, but Calrton is is equal when it comes to complex knowledge and application of Harmony and so is Robber...ditto Lukather...Dont get me wrong, I KNOW Buzz, I have known him for 35 years...In fact my closest pal Bassist Vernon Porter was the original bass player in Larsen Feiten band and taught Freddie Washington the bass parts....Vernon went on to work w/ Bette Midler, Kenny Loggins Dave Mason and eventually quit his role as a sideman to focus on his band "Above The Clouds" with sax legend Vince Denham You should hear the bootleg stuff I have of Buzzy !....and yeah he and Lukather BOTH love that highly processed Tone...I have some boots of Lukather playing Miles Davis and Wayne Shorter tunes... One night at the Spud I recorded drums Carlos Vega bass Nathan East percussion: Lenny castro Keyboards David Garfield sax Brandon Fields guitar Steve Lukather Tunes included: "Paladium" by Wayne Shorter, Butterfly by Herbie Hancock, Donna" which is a great ballad by Garfield, a roaring blues shuffle and 2 other originals...Incandescent evening my man and Freddie Hubbard was WATCHING !...Sanborn had sat in the night before...Its an amazing quality for a bootleg.
@wormtownpaul6 жыл бұрын
How would I get a copy of that bootleg? I'd love to hear it. Oh yeah, I don't want to take anything away from Carlton, Ford, and a very few others. They are absolutely outstanding and I dearly love them. But there was always something about Buzz that had him a hair ahead in my book (even though I'm not that fond of the highly processed tone). But that's purely a personal preference of which excellence do you favor at that point. I'm sure you've heard that Larsen album with Robben Ford. Really great stuff.
@2cents1286 жыл бұрын
I agree with both you and MrLosguerreros regarding Buzz Feiten. I would add Eric Johnson to the mix also. The only difference is that Buzz didn't get the public attention that the others received and that is too bad as he certainly deserved it. However, ask any good musician about Buzz Feiten and they'll know exactly who and what you're referring to. Some of the best chops ever.

Outstanding without doubt but maybe it is good that more contemporary jazz/fusion oriented guitar sound has changed to a little more clean one. I don`t seem to hear the fine nuances of strings, flesh and no bullshit playing with all these layers of multi overdrive effects and chorus- delays on the guitar. Even so it is a great band, and Buzz and the rest play just great

That must be an old concert - half the songs they played came from "Emerald City" ..... thank God they didn't leave off "Sudden Samba". Although on the album the time fluctuates a bit (not on purpose - either) Buzzy Feiten's guitar solo is so killer ... so killer - check out the studio version if you can find it.
